Hi all,
I don’t own any GPs yet. I have been taking a while to research and discuss with my parents.

I’m looking to build a wooden/plexiglas cage (similar to YouTuber Little Adventures cage). I have the dimensions for the length and the width but I’m struggling to find anything regarding height to the cage. I’m not looking to add a lid so the height would have to be enough so they can’t climb out by themselves.

I am looking to get a neutered boar and a sow or two sows from a local rescue.
Any suggestions? Thanks :)

I can't help you with the cage you're building but it sounds like a really great plan! I do make our cages and liners here for the c&c cages and I love doing this but I'm afraid the project you're doing is a pipedream for my diy'er skills :-). Glad you're getting closer to guinea pig slavery lol. You're really doing a great job!

There can be others coming on to help out for your rescue search-lots of really awesome people here are dedicated to rescuing many guinea pigs and will have tons of info for you in your area.

Really happy you're getting ready for your little ones coming with your family :-).

hi , i would say about 25-30cm max for the height but little adventures has a low height on hers and the guinea pigs don’t jump out?

My C&C cage is 36 cm high.
The girls can stretch up to put front paws on the top but can’t climb out.

Your plans sound amazing.
You will have to post pics of the cage when it’s done - not forgetting the piggies when you get them.

Yeah I thought that too! Her cage really doesn’t seem high, especially with the door she has on the cage!

I think I’ll go for that height, I wanted them to be able to stretch but didn’t want them jumping out. I’ll defo be posting photos once it’s all done. Looking into costs it’d be cheaper making it than buying a cage similar to it. I’ve seen one that was around £150-£200 and I’m currently looking at £70-£80 at the moment. No including all the fleece and bedding!

I made mine out of some old pallets and scrap wood. It cost me £16 for the wire. It measures approx 2mx1mx1m and I made a little house for the inside that has no bottom but just stands on a slab (with newspaper and hay on the floor) for easy cleaning. It was my first project, so it’s a bit shabby but I’m planning to buy some new wood next summer and make it look a bit better! But the Guineas don’t mind and seem happy 😊

That’s really well made, especially for a first project! Mine will be an indoor cage so I’ll be using pond liner on the base so no pee soaks through to the wood! Let us know when you do your next project! I’d love to see :)

Piggies chew on wood. My piggies chew on their wooden toys and can destroy them pretty quickly.
I give my piggies large wooden balls so they can play and/or chew on them. These wooden balls get destroyed in a matter of days.
They also have wooden tunnel and they constantly chew on that.

Aww thanks I am a bit proud of it, even if it does look a bit tatty but next summer I will definitely make them a new home but probably keep the same design as it works well for me, it’s very easy to clean out. They will come inside over winter in a shop bought two story cage but they definitely seem happy outdoors with all this lovely weather we are having and get very excited and squeaky when they see me ( I know it’s only for the food I bring ha ha )..
Thanks again and hope yours goes well 😊

I’m looking into a play pen for the grass but I have dogs so I’m worried about the pee :( I think I may use some of the leftover pond liner as a base for the pen. My dogs just pee wherever in the garden, I wish they’d just pick a corner 😂

Couldnt you leave the pen there all the time and your dogs wouldn’t be able to get on that part of the grass n wee?

It’s my parents garden so it would have to be put away and my dogs are very micheavous. They would somehow find a way into then pen! We’ve tried to block them off from areas before and then they’re suddenly there!

Oh I don’t know then?🤔 to bee honest I haven’t got much grass left where the pig pen is as they’ve completely nibbled it to the ground n my husband has only allocated a small plot 😳 of “his” lawn, so I go and cut them some grass everyday 😊
