Hello,

does anyone have any ideas or recipes for guinea pig treats and toys I could give my piggies on an occasion, as I think they would enjoy it:)

My piggies don't really take interest in toys, but I think something that involves some veggies, would take their fancy:D

A really fun idea is to get a deep tray/box without a lid. Half fill it with sawdust or hay and burry your guineas favourite food in it. My guinea loved this and was looking for ages. Hope this helped :)

burying food in hay/anything food related gets my girls' interest. i put treats in the middle of a toilet roll, cardboard box or paper bag and then stuff it with hay. they also really like climbing, so i've made steps with bricks and wood offcuts that they love jumping on and off.

I also make toys out of toilet rolls stuffed with hay and veggies and my girls love it. I either cut down the middle (lengthways) or cut a few holes in it because they get bored with toys if they have to work too hard to get the treats :P I also sometimes hang treats up so they have to stand up to reach them. I've bought so many specially made guinea pig toys and they just go to waste, but the toilet rolls are they're absolute favourites - go figure! I actually bought them a medium sized dog bed (even though they already have their own little couch each - spoilt girls!) and they love running over that and hiding under it, and then napping on it together after they've worn themselves out. They also love to drag their pigloos around (I think they just like to redecorate) and they have a big sleeping back/snuggle sack to share but I don't usually put that in for floor time as they get so cosy they don't like to leave it!

every morning, when I place the boys in their 'outdoor-now-indoor' run, i make-up a forage tray (a shallow cardboard tray i sourced from the garden centre): i use different sorts of hay (most recently i tried oat hay in the mix), as well as add some dry food, sometimes a sprinkle of readigrass, and i break up two fenugreek treats in it, as well as clip up and hide some dandelion root through it, and sometimes grate some parsnip or carrot over it.

i also discovered they do love rummaging in a paper bag full of hay. and they do also like the balls made from twigs and stuffed with hay -they don't completely destroy the ball to get at the first stuffing, so i can re-stuff it a few times (e.g. with outdoor grass mixed into the hay) before it does fall apart.

as for toys, they love their tunnels. i got a second one yesterday. the 'brand' name is 'the way to go'. and you pull them out. (the only thing i have to figure out is how to clean them best as the poo gets wedged in the ridges ...).
