Without any statistics to back this up and off the top of my head!
It seems to me that when I think of my most long lived piggies, they were all boars and 4 out of the 5 castrated. What do others think, does it seem that boars out live sows? Can't think why having them castrated would influence this, so this is maybe just a coincidence ? added to the fact that my long-term boys invariably have the "op."
Anyone any thoughts on this? What is your experience
Maybe that does have something to do with it? These boars all bar one lived out their lives with constant guinea companionship, the unneutered boar lived for approx 2 years alone as he wouldn't pal up with another male. So maybe this has something to do with it too?
Don't they say people in relationships tend to live longer than those alone? I've heard that somewhere
I have never had a boar so no idea but I had a very funny sow in that after her sister died she would not accept another sow. I wasn't aware of forums like this and the rescue world then or I would have tried to adopt a neutered boar but in the end she spent the last 3 years of her life with only me for company - and she lived to be 7 and a half. I hated the fact I couldn't seem to get her to settle with a friend but she did seem so happy by herself... Anyway, my point was that she doesn't seem to fit the rule about piggys living longer if they have company
