Do Guinea Pig Need Baths?

Writing on behalf of Riffy, he would like to say that he, personally, loves a nice warm bath and would like one every day, but he can only persuade his mummy to give him an occasional bath. He has to work very hard at getting dirty to persuade her to get out his gorgeous guineas bath stuff. Others in the family are not keen on bathing. This can be noticeable. Riffy

I agree, gorgeous guineas are by FAR the best on the market O0 Well worth the money O0

Ore has requested a bath this weekend, so I know what I'd be doing O0

I don't think it's cruel. THey may seem to be stressed out and not like it, but then again mine hate getting their toe nails trimmed, they don't like their feet being touched. My past ones just popped in the sink because they didn't like it.

It's nice to have a nice smelling piggy, especially because mine like to go to the bathroom in their cushiony piggy bed and sleep in it. :D

Peter Gurney recommended that if you want to bath your pigs do it every 3 months. I have some pigs that havent had a bath in year, they do keep themselves clean.
Boars get very greasey on the grease gland area, just above the anus where the spine end and a tail should start. This is a scent gland and I would recommend anyone who has a greasey gland to use washing up liquid or swarega(sp?) with a nail brush.

Hiya,

Your mum is wrong they do need a bath as guinea pigs do not like being dirty. They are very clean animals. Just make sure the water isn't too hot and that the water is quite shallow. Introduce them to the water slowly to otherwise they take it as a shock!! I use very gentle shampoo for mine so that it does not hurt their eyes.

Happy bathing ;)

the piggies i had in the past got bathed every 3 months and will try and do the same with the ones i have, especially the boys. even a washing up bashin you keep under your bed would do, so your mum isn't freaked out with you bathing them in the sink. xx

mine dont mind baths, i do it in the bathroom sink and they watch themselves in the mirror. Just make sure that they are dried off really well, i always use the hairdyer and i never put them back in their out door hutch straight away i always leave them in the sunlounge for about half an hour to warm up and get used to room O0

Mine hate baths but I have to put them in the huge bath as my hot water gets really hot so I use the water from the shower to wash them as I can control that - the hot water gets far too hot in the w.h.b.
