i've read so many threads where people have said about their OH being tired of being overrun with piggles, and i was just curious, is this the norm?

my boyfriend ONLY likes guinea pigs. he's not very tolerable of other animals (especially my reptiles), but he adores the piggies. they watch at least one movie with us every week, and he'll happily go outside and watch them for ages.

i've also noticed that a majority of the members here are girls. i guess we're just suckers for the little fuzzballs :p

There are quite a few male members on here also, and I have to say my hubby loves Roger but does feel a limit of 2 piggies is more than enough.

I think they like them when you start with two............ xx

My hubby didn't mind it at that stage, but with eight, he is feeling just a tad outnumbered! malletheadmalletheadmallethead

My dad tolerates them. He was a little fond of one of my past girls and will very occasionally come and see Jasmine and Dexter (the only pigs of mine he actually remembers) but he pretty much leaves me to it.

I only told him last night that he'd be going with my mum collecting #14 for me today. He went off in a huff last night but is happy enough today, I think the prospect of escaping the terrible twins for a few hours won him round. rolleyes

my dad loves the piggies too when they go for their holibags he just sits and watches them for hours thinks theyre hilarious :)) mum is not so keen on handling them but she will stroke them if someone else is holding them and she speaks to them all the time when she is pottering about in the house

My dad just calls them rats. rolleyes

I think he has a kind of affection towards them...but he's not actively interested. If I need him to drive me somewhere to take the pigs to the CCT for example, then he'll do it - he has his morals! - but he's generally not much of an animal person.

i kept with 2 for 3 years. it kind of leapt up to 5 in a matter of months though :p most of my family just picks one that they like. Tilly is a favourite with most. she's the hand-me-down piggle. she's 6 in a few months, and was given to me by my sister when the other piggle died, because i had more time to spend with her. she's adorable :) then we got Tiny, who is the bain of my existence :p my boyfriend picked her at a pet shop. i call her a guinea rat as she has an elongated nose in comparison to the others. it's only recently that adoration for the little set in for me. i've always loved them, but i'd now class them as one of my favourite animals. probably because of Molly :(

my dad-in-law like that as his daughter has two guinea pigs (i am trying to get her to get herslef on this site but shes taking her time about it i hassle her everytime about joining) its so she can meet all you lovely friendly people :)

well where to start i met my OH 7yrs ago he had never had a pet before well he did say he had one pet a goldfish:)):)) i on the other hand have always had pets after moving in with him after 4 mths i managed to get him let me have a dog but it had to be a greyhound only because he like the racing me i hated it but i thought oookkkkk i only wanted a yorkie size dog but its a dog so thats fine after having sammy we soon went on the have suzie who is now 10yrs sammy died after 2 yrs of having him both were ex racing rescues.we then went on the have 1 guinea pig 4 yrs ago then a rabbit who is now about 3 a rescue, then i had another 2 females for my guinea whiskers who is a female well this year we have suzie still a rabbit still same one,2 rats,8 guineas of my own and 19 rescue guineas looking for homes and ive have rehomed 47 guineas now..
all in 7yrs with a man who never had a pet only a gold fish and he loves them as much as mexx

i never had a pet as a child not even a goldfish :( my parents had a labrador who hasd to be pts at just 15months old due to close breeding needless to say the woman they got prince off was banned from breeding and banned from keeping dogs also we always nagged for a dog but mum said no as she would have been left to look after it which i think she would have as you know how kids can get bored of things very easily my OH and i started out as going for fish but he came home with a guinea pig starter kit and well we coudln't keep fish in there :(|) and we have never looked back though I think I have managed to convince him that when we decide to get a dog once we have a proper garden etc that we should rescue a greyhound as i met some rescue ones in the town centre and they are adorable and so cuddly even though they are really thin but oh so affectionate and loving so think it may be a greyhound once we do decide to get one :))

in my house theres only my little brother and no other boys :)) poor boys so out numbered but at the minute hes just started taking an iterest an helping me look after them but I'm sure he'll get bored soon so its a good job ill never get bored of them :)

we've always had pets. and we have a right list. my big sister breeds rats, so we have a shed just for them. to sum up, 6 dogs, 14 cats, 25 (or 24) chickens, 30+ rats, 2 dragons, 2 leopard geckos, 7 rabbits, 5 guinea, 2 ferrets, 2 degus, 2 GALS, fish, 4 mice, a parrot, and a sparrow. and a tortoise. a majority are from places where they were unwanted or the like. tis what comes of having a sister majoring in zoology...

my boyfriend has never had a pet, as his dad is very allergic to fur. chris is also not very good with fur, but i dont think hed give up the piggies for anything. he has this irrational dislike of bones. and guinea pigs have hardly any shape :p

My boyfriend loves them. His favourite is Suzy. He'd never admit this to anyone of course! But when he thinks he's alone you should see him with them all. :(|)

My dad is also very fond of them. When my parents were looking after them, apparently my dad was going out to see them before even his morning cuppa!

I think it's trying to be tough and 'blokey' for a lot of them.

chris is like that. does your boyfriend baby babble at them at all? ' they're just so cute, oh yes they are' it's quite hysterical at times. i don't think he realises he's doing it.

I'm a guy....all man I like to think.

And I love my Guineas. I originally bought them for my children but I knew I would do most of the care giving.

They're just so nice and ask for so little.....exception being grass.......and I love seeing them happy.

I would think it correct in saying that "macho" types don't consider them manly pets but then again Machos are usually hiding their fear of inadequacy behind a facade of pretend bravado.

My two sons love them as well.

It took some convincing initially for Simon to agree to get piggies. We were in Pets at Home buying cat-food and I was looking at all the animals (as I always do :) ) and he was looking at the rabbits. There was a piggie in at the time who looked like the little guy I'd had as a child and I mentioned him and how he used to squeak back to the Clangers :)) he didn't know they were noisy little things so a quick look on You Tube showed him what I meant.

I few days later he made a comment which I grabbed hold of. 'I would have a guinea pig I think' that was it! I agreed to change the whole garden in exchange to two pigs. Deal done. We picked up Willow and Pippa last Valentine's Day x)

His love of them was sealed just before Cjristmas when we'd been disgussing adding another girl to our two in the Spring. He was very receptive to the idea (much more than I thought he ever would be) and I was extremely surprised to come home one day to find Pixel waiting. He'd gone out and chose her himself x)

I would not be surprised if our trio becomes a four or even five over the next few years. I think he'donly need a little bit of convincing ;) He loves to cuddle with them and gets a bit miffed when they won't sit still . He also talks to them all the time. In fact, the first thing I heard him say this morning was 'Hello Willow!' He's a big softie on the quiet :)

My boyfriend loves them and mucks them out, feeds them etc. Think I found a keeper x)

My BF loves my 2 although he wasn't happy with me getting them, he has grown to love them and was cuddling Ludo before drying him off and was telling his mum on the phone how lovely they are, if you knew my BF, that would shock you! :(|)

My boyfriend really wasn't keen on getting them- i always had animals around me until i moved in with him, now we've got our own place i really wanted some animals to take care of and decided on piggies :) my boyfriend thinks of them as smelly creatures so i've been educating him on what piggies are relly like and how they won't smell cause they will be well looked after by me! :) he's slowly come round but not sure on how he will take to them once i get them- only time will tell!

I started with 3...lost one...went looking for a replacement and he helped me and ended up with 4 himself. Today we came home with our RSPCA rescue which is his! He's a sucker for any animal. He'd have an elephant if it weren't cruel!

my partner loves them more than me lol he always out there talking to them, i love them to bits but he says he loves them more than me lol

Oh I know I am lucky but m yhubby loves the piggies as much as I do. He won't let me rehome some of them as he loves them too much lol. We are both piggy slaves in my house. We currently have 30 piggies at home!

My OH likes them, he builds my hutches, built the shed (& extensions) & helps me clean them out every wkend :)

I think many OH's are cautious especially since most of us are pig mad and they are all just wondering when they will be overrun with them lol.
My OH is very different,he originally said no more than two! now i have 13 soon to be over 20 from rescue.
He has said yes to all of these piggies,he also helps at feed time/cage cleaning/hay top ups despite being allergic to the hay and pigs.
He is also building me a huge bank setup for my cages currently
He cuddles them all the time and on some of his days off takes me the 5 hour journey to the rescue,he also drove to sydney which is 7 hours away so i could pick up two piggies.
He is wonderful thats all i can say lol
