This is quite an odd question, but do I belong? 🤣
I feel as if everyone here is an adult and I am sitting here in awe of people owning guinea pigs for longer than I have been alive!
Sometimes I think that the advice that I am giving is not so great...but I just really enjoy helping people! :)
🤷‍♀️

Everybody is welcome on this forum as a member as long as they are over 16 (this is for their own protection) and either has guinea pigs or is doing research into what to provide for them before getting guinea pigs. I have had my current piggies for 4 years and prior to that had my Rainbow Piggies for 6 years but that was a loooooong time ago.

Thank you! I am always so worried about giving incorrect advice! I am just trying my best! :)

That is what we are all trying to do. We give advice based on our own experiences of what has/hasn't worked with our piggies. Everyone on here is a Member just like you. The Admin Staff and Moderators do a fantastic job at keeping his Forum a safe and happy place to hang out. They do not get paid and are busy people with jobs, families etc and give their time freely and don't mind answering the same type of question over again.

I've only owned my boys for 2 years so I would be impressed if that's longer than your lifetime. I grew up with piggies but sadly knowing what I know now they were not cared for well. All we can do is share the information we have in a friendly and gentle way to better the lives of piggies everywhere!

I can only echo what Betsy said. What makes this forum so wonderful is that all the members share their experiences and knowledge to help each other out. The only thing we generally ask is that, if you aren't sure or particularly knowledgeable on a set question when it's posted in the health and illness section, to leave it for the health and illness advisors. This doesn't mean you can't comment to offer support to the poster but does prevent any risk of multiple replies of guess work which could have a detrimental impact on the piggies.
Other than that we all have to learn from somewhere. I knew nothing about guinea pigs when I joined, I had gone to a rescue for one and come back with two and had a lovely set up 100cm cage. Needless to say the next day I found this place, two became 3, I built a big c&c and then 3 became 4 :)) it's all very addictive

Heck, I haven’t even owned any piggies and I’m right around the minimum age to be on here. I just like guinea pigs and have some experience from pet sitting them/owning other rodents. Even if I don’t participate a whole lot it’s fun to browse around. :)
🤣
Thank you.

It’s a great forum. I have had piggies for over the last 50 years on and off. I am still learning now. I look back on my previous piggies and think they probably weren’t as well looked after then. It wasn’t because I didn’t care and love them Just the same, its because of the lack of knowledge/information and how husbandry was then. Knowledge is King!

All the staff admins, mods and special advisers give their time free of charge. We are all just members. We welcome everyone who abides by the rules.

We have built up our bank of guides based on our considerable experience. We have a formidable wealth of knowledge and the best way to keep our great reputation for giving the best advice is for us to ask that new members desist from giving advice on health and illness and pregnancy. We have specialist advisors who have a green plus sign and are described as notable contributors under their signatures. Any member is welcome to offer support or share their experience on those threads but we ask them not to give advice unless they have a special qualification we are unaware of (eg as a vet or vet nurse).

Everyone is welcome here and no-one is judged.
We share our experiences - rejoice in the wisdom of the experts & specialists and learn from each other.
It's just that some of us have birth certificates that suggest we should be mature and sensible adults by now!

You don't have to be an expert to post things, it's just a nice place to share your experiences with other people, especially if you don't know anyone in your world who's really interested in piggies. As long as you are enjoying it then I would say you would fir right in!

Or drive your friends and family slightly mad talking animals (especially rodents and fish) all day like myself! You find others that do the same! :D

OR make everyone worry slightly by talking to any and all animals in your life. Because I definitely wasn't giving a pep talk to a bee the other week. Definitely not. And my neighbour definitely didn't hear me giving a bee a pep talk.

:)) Yeah I got a strange look talking to a pigeon the other day, it was one of the neighbours that doesn’t take the mick out of me for ‘picking my breakfast’ outside in the garden so wasn’t aware I am an animal freak! :))
Oh well, we enjoy it! :D

Honestly the best part of the whole night was the look on my neighbour's face when she was wondering why I wanted sugar and water and I held up my hand with a bee on the back of a finger. "My buddy here needs some help." One of those moments nobody gets to see often enough :))

I can't remember who it was, it was a few years ago now, but I'd posted a video of the boys and I was talking to them in it, and one of our members was like, "Okay my guinea pig just came looking for wherever your voice was" which was cute lol. Besides, I could talk for Ireland. And England too.

And animals, unlike people, can't tell me to can it haha.

The Ever Beautiful Betsy says "You got kale? Where? Where? I'm moving in!"
Who has kale? Ollie will be right there, he loves brassicas but they dont love him back and he gets brassica caecotrophs stuck in his wonky disabled bum sometimes that plop out when he's asleep so his wife quite sensibly doesn't allow kale or broccolli... he'll be right round, but it might smell a bit funny afterwards!
