Heeeeey. I have hutch inside a shed that’s just for them so about 170 x 110 plus the hutch (it’s always open and has about 8 hiding spaces)

Should I get another boar? I’ve got the two at the moment. And they seem fine together.... thinking empathetic towards the guinea pig.... seeing the same fella everyday must be tough sometimes 🤣 should I get another or could this cause drama? Is it better to keep them in 3’s? I am already a slave and about £1000 down in cash since adopting them.

What’s your thoughts. Here’s today’s run by the way. I really do enjoy changing it around.

Having 3 boars is a recipe for disaster most of the time, having two boars and 1 sow is definitly a disaster.

What do you have at the moment?

Its best to either have...

1 boar 1 sow pair.
2 sows and one boar trio
Or 2 boars

I’ve got two Boars and they get on pretty well to be fair
Yea thats quite normal 2 boars loads of people have that get along. Adding another boar is likely to end up in fighting.

Your best of sticking to having just 2 boars, else you could end up breaking the bond you already made. Or worse case scenario having 3 boars that end up being all seperate

I have only heard bad stories from housing 3 boars. I have not heard 3 boars getting along well.
In fact just the other day, I was having a conversation regarding 2 boars drifting apart with @Betsy, her Christian and Dennis.

They were in with sows i believe though

From what I understand, Christian and Dennis got along even with sows around. They just decided they didn't like each other recently. Now they are separated and became mini herd.
Yea that is true, it can be 2 boars arguing over sows though that can cause a fall out. But like you basicly just said, they were fine before. I cant remember what happened exactly with betsy's

This is what happend @SkyPipDotBernie and @Seven7 and why I split my herd of 2 boars and 3 sows.

Velvet was DA BOSS for 2 and a half years. (I have had my piggies now for just over 3 years and waited until the boys were neutered before bonding them with the girls) Velvet used to sort out any squabbles between everypig and was there sometimes even before trouble started. Christian was always 3rd in command until Betsy started to lose her sight to cataracts and then let Christian take over her position as 2nd in command. Then one day Christian decided he wanted to be DA BOSS and so Velvet backed down and let him. Being DA BOSS meant that Christian didn't have to put up with having his little brother Dennis around any more. So subtley started to bully Dennis by not letting him have food and not having the girls. I noticed that Dennis was a little sad and was starting to lose weight and that the others were basically ignoring him. Even his sister, shy little Meg was ignoring him and they had been great friends backing each other up etc. I thought that there was something wrong with Dennis as he was losing weight which may have been the reason for everypig ignoring him and looking sad so I took him to the vet. The vet gave him a clean bill of health. I put him back with the others and observed them carefully and noticed that Christian jumped infront of him when he was eating and Velvet did nothing about it. So it was with a heavy heart that I split them up. Dennis is now with Betsy and Christian is with Velvet and Meg.

:btt: I would not recommend doing anything that could upset the bond between your 2 bonded boars.
Boars don’t live companionably in groups

Thank you for all your replies I didn't realise it could cause so much problems, Ill keep my boys happy as they are :)

Believe me, I know how tempting it is when we think we can offer such a fabulous life to another animal, but anything that can upset the bond between 2 boars is not going to be worth the risk.
