Hi
I sadly lost a piggy last week, and have a lonely baby (about 12 week old) sow that needs company.
Am waiting 2 weeks until I know she isn't poorly, but reading on here, I wondered if I need to get a new cage to put the new addition into before they live together?
Any suggestions appreciated - am new to guinea pigs, and have just bought a new indoor cage for them (until the weather was warmer) plus an outdoor hutch for the summer, so I am a little spent out at present to say the least, and long term don't think I need two cages?! Esp as I couldn't resist spoiling them..
Any suggestions appreciated as to how I can go about this? O0
PS - I have a cat, so the cage needs to be enclosed rather than C&C style (although Coco is safely shut away when I'm not there)

am so sorry for your lost :'( :'( :'( 0:) 0:) 0:) if you get a piggy from a rescue then normally you don't have to quarentine(sp)if you have just bought a new indoor cage then you still have the old one don't you? you could put your new fur baby in that when you get it. if not perhaps you could either rig something up, meaning making a cage yourself as a temp thing or could you bring the outside cage inside? wishing you luck, welcome to the forums from us in oz, and again so sorry for your lost. :'( :'( :'( RIP sweet furbaby run free and popcorn in paradise. 0:) 0:) 0:) hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

sorry, no I meant I'm a newbie to guinea pigs, so not long bought all the cages/hutches, and only have the one cage. I could look at using the hutch inside for a while, good idea, thanks.

and thanks for your kind words, that was lovely. although not done much for my tears!

Hello

Sorry to hear about your guinea. As Choloe said, if you get one from rescue that has already been through a quarantine period and health-check prior to homing, you would be ok to introduce them right away and given that your remaining pig is just a baby, it should be ok. If you don't mind me asking, what did your other pig die of? Just in case it was something that might be catching, in which case I'd wait to get a new pig.

Where abouts are you? Some rescues will let you take your young pig along to meet some others and find one that gets along with her!

Good luck

Sophie

It was very sudden, so the vet wasn't sure - the only thing they thought of was a respiratory problem from what little they could tell. Coco was checked out and fine, but needs to be on her own for at least a couple of weeks to make sure there's nothing that could be passed on. Would like to have a rescue pig if possible - I'm in Staffordshire
:)
