I have two boars one is about 6 months old the other is about 8 months old. From the beginning the older one has been rumble strutting and seems to have been the dominant piggie. Over the last month or so the other one has been nipping, lunging, and very grumpy. The older pig has two cuts on his nose. Should I separate and try to reintroduce them?

I should also mention that they have a 3 by 5 c and c cage with a loft. Two of everything also. They are out for floor time for half the day in a large room, so I don't think space is the issue.

I have two boars that are brothers, they had a bad fight about a week ago and I had to separate them, luckily I got them neutered about 5 weeks ago so in a few days they can be paired up with one of my 3 girls.
On an unrelated note, I am also from Kentucky and a stay at home mom to two kids! I have two dogs and 5 guinea pigs.

Hi! Please have a read of this guide here. It also deals with how you can test whether a bond is still viable or not. Your two boys are currently both in a tricky phase; the younger is suffering from an all time high of testosterone and the older is at the stage where he is the typical annoying teenager that pushes the limits all the time...

As long as there aren't any real fights, you are still in with a chance but these phases can be very touch and go.

Thank you. They seem to get along. I haven't seen the fight. I figured his hormones were going crazy. I am just hoping to keep them together.

@Wiebke is always the best help with these things and gave really great advice. Boars can be really difficult. Just keep an eye on them and make certain there is no fur flying around constantly along with any blood shed from the less dominant one. So far, it seems stressful but not critical in their bonding. The cage set up is wonderful; it sounds as if you are doing great with trying to get these guys to be friends.

Keep us up to date as I am learning with my boars a bit more with experience but it's always a learning thing for me.

Thank you! They have gotten along fine until just recently. I think the younger one has hit a hormone Spike and may be fighting for dominance? Hopefully they will work it out.
