Hello my lovely piggy obsessed friends.. oh how glad I am these forums exist for like minded people :D

So, searching through gumtree..as you do. I come across a female Rex ‘roan’ Piggie looking for a new home. She’s only 8 weeks old and they are selling her as she has not grown the correct coat for Guinea pig showing.. apparently she has a ‘fur fault’ whatever that means. She looks adorable from the photos.
So the question is should I get her?
I only bonded Mary with Opal and Olive last week so I’m concerned it may upset the 2 girls by having yet another pig to introduce? Mary gives me no concerns, in fact I feel like she could do with her ‘own’ friend.. someone who would (grow) into her own size as she’s massive compared to O&O haha!
My joint cage is 240 cm long with a small upper level. Would this be adequate for 4 pigs? 2 small girls (I can’t see them ever growing much bigger due to there terrible start in life), a large Rex and possibly another large Rex.
Decisions, decisions..

Thanks in advance for your opinions

Dooooo it! :))

Your cage is big enough and I always find with an odd number there is more likely to be one left out. I usually stick to a nice round number of 4 :)

Do it  I’m just about to add a 3rd.... I don’t know if I’m going to be able to stop there.... :shh::blink:

I tend to agree that 4 is a better number than 3, so it is certainly worth considering.
But as she is from a breeder she will definitely need to be quarantined for a full 2 weeks and may come with health problems (ring worm is common in large breeder set ups).
Do you have the space, time and financial resources to deal with a potentially ill piggy?

Personally if you can cope with all of that then I say go for it too.

I will interject a little here. Quarantine is not always possible with babies. When I took in Poppy she didn't move from her hay pile overnight and hadn't touched her veg or barely pooped. As a result I had no option but to pop her straight in with Daisy and cross my fingers that nothing showed up. The change was immediate. If the piggy is used to being alone then they may be able to be quarantined but in my case Poppy would not have survived two weeks alone

Edit to add that it's a case by case situation and you have to be prepared to accept what could happen in the worst case scenario that the baby can't cope with quarantine alone and you end up with 4 sick piggies

I would say go for it! Our Blodwen was dumped in the free ads as a breeder's reject (then falsely advertised as "lone female pet urgently needs new home"). Breeder's pigs are used to lots of company so much better to add her to a herd than risk her being rehomed somewhere alone... if you have the money and space of course and are prepared for unexpected health issues (Blod arrived with ringworm and expensive dental problems, she was a £300 vet bill free pig).

I would go for it, I know you can offer this piggie a loving home x

Thanks for the opinions everyone!
She’s an hour and a half away and I haven’t had a car this week so I told the girl to let me know if she doesn’t sell by the weekend, well she got back in contact today asking some questions about if I had other piggies and what’s my set up, she replied that she hasn’t sold yet and won’t sell to just anyone but happy for me too.
If my partner is happy to take me Sunday then I will :)
IF I do I will keep her separate from the girls for a week and keep an eye on her health.. and I’ll be sure to let you all know and post pigtures! :D
