do looks matter?

Thankfully all the piggies I have had have been singles as I really don't think I could go and pick one. They are all soooo cute.

The only time we have ever picked animals as such was when we got Donut and Bailey. When we went to the rescue centre for Donut, they only had a couple of boys and Donut was the most laid back and my son could pick him up. it had nothing to do with looks. When we got Bailey, again from the same rescue, there was only him and a small rabbit which I would describe as cute. Now Bailey is rather large and dinosaur looking (my husbands description) and has no ears. We asked if he was available and the woman actually said 'I forgot about him as no one is ever interested'. Needless to say we grabbed him there and then and have never once regretted it.

Anyone who is so shallow to think you should by a pet purely on looks, should probably have a good look in the mirror themselves!

what an arfull women i love all my pigges even tho some look a bit diffrent in the face or some have sticky up hair and some dont

give me animals over people anytime they dont bitch dont judge you dont upset you love you no matter what and dont care what you look like etc etc its people I have problems with some are just pain ugly in the way they treat others nothing to do with looks, just by having no respect for others feelings, take Jade for instance now she is one ugly cow ( sorry cows) not by her looks by her mouth and manner,
all guineas are the most beautiful animals ever, dont think I would have kept my mouth shut, and I think you acted so calm with her saying that about your darling Tonn >:( >:( he is gorgeous,

I think you are absolutely right to feel the need to vent Kelly! What is wrong with some people! OK as some others have said, if we are honest we are probably all initially drawn to the "more attractive looking" pigs. How many people have sat and cooed over baby perus and shelties thinking how sweet they are with their long, silky hair, not giving a thought to how much effort they will have to put in to keep them looking and feeling good as they get bigger - and where do they end up, in rescues run by you fab people! All animal babies are "cute", but they grow up, and just because they do, this shouldn't make them any less endearing or appealing.

I am so glad you didn't let her see the website, sounds like she shouldn't be allowed to own animals. And why do people look at you as if you are talking in a foreign language when you tell them that pigs and buns should not be housed together? I think PAH has a lot to answer to on this front. Despite their insistence that they do not recommend adults living together, why do they find it necessary to have piggies and bunnies living together EVER! Gives the general public the impression it is OK. Sorry, could go on for ever here and I don't even need to preach to you lot! :)

Well done again.

Not to me they don't! I have a whole house full of piggies - a lot of whom are rescues that just waited and waited because they weren't 'perfect' enough.

Case in point is my Oscar who I have had for the best part of 4 years now. My ex bought him home from work one day when he was baby as one of the morons he worked with was going to let him go free in the garden as no one wanted to buy him as he was ugly >:( >:(

Who couldn't love this face??

As a baby

And now!

At the end of the day I love all of my motley crew no matter how they look or what problems they have as I think thats what makes them who they are.

My Herbie is a bit like your Oscar starshine, take a look! As a baby, a so called friend of mine, didn't want to re-home him because she thought he looked like a rat! Needless to say he lives with me! This photo was taken last summer, he is now a huge boy!

omg stunners whats wrong with people, I adore any animals with a quirky feature I dont regard them as ugly at all just special, I always go for the runt as well, be it dogs or pigs, max was the runt yet he still with us at 14, I've had a one eye and a 3 legged pig all the more endearing to me ,
I instantly take a dislike to anyone who doesn't like animals,

I love that botton picture of Oscar! He reminds me of Beaver from The Lion, The Witch and Wardrobe film!

He's very cute. Kids can be cruel though can't they, they don't sugar coat anything. I took my niece into see Leo the other day, he stuck his head out from his igloo to look at us and she said "aww, he'd cute" But when he emerged from his igloo she grimaced and said she didn't like his white bum! Mind you she said the same thing about my two white rats, Pinky and the Brain.

Give me animals any day! They don't ask for anything, are there when you need a special cuddle (OK you're doing the cuddling!) and don't argue or criticise! People, well don't get me started on that - GPF members excluded of course ;D :D ;D :D

I'm no saint, I've picked piggies because they were cute, beautiful colourings etc but I also have some that aren't interesting to others and would always be passed by but to me they are stunning..... I love them all the same! :)

One of my favourites is a golden agouti sow, yes I know we shouldn't have them! (Twiglet, my avatar) nothing to look at to anyone from outside but to me she's a stunner :)

What a dreadful woman.

Ive never had the pleasure of meeting Uncle Ton but he is a legend. How dare she be so insulting about one of Gods creatures.

I'm really surprised that lady and daughter didn't choose a baby from a pet shop - but having said that they probably will. ?

I think that 'free' stood out more!

I was thinking though - ok a bit off the line - but no-one would hate their baby if it had green eyes not blue, or an odd shaped nose , you would just learn to love.

But she had disgust on her face!

Kate, my mum was holding Oscar in the group pigture at yours, she adored him and wanted to pignap him :)

I have yet to meet an ugly guinea. I don't believe they exist.

no looks don't matter :( i remember when i took baby to the vets not so long ago, hes the one with the cleft lip, blind and tilted head :D you have to laugh he sounds bad with all them things, never mind how he looks ;)

anyway she picked him up and said" well your not the prettiest looking fella" well do you know i was quite put out... because i really do think he is cute but i realise that is because he is so special to me and his looks really don't matter.

i felt like telling her she was pretty ugly and to lay of my baby but i suppose with his scabby nose at times and his funny looking eyes and his tilt he does have an individual look that the average person may not appreciate ;D

some times i look at him and my eyes fill with tears cause i think god your cute but really its because i know I'm so lucky to still have him after all the illnesses he's had, i suppose i really do feel pure love for that baby, he's nearly one now.

we judge people by their looks but its what is inside that counts..............so you take no notice of that silly woman, she obviously has no looks or personality and i doubt any piggy would want to be with her...............

Aww, I thought Baby was a little sweetie! I love them all no matter what they look like. Mine have some mad hairdos because they've been barbering but it just cheers me up to look at them!

She is the sort that thinks the pretty little guineapig wont wee or poo! Obviously she is shallow. Glad you failed to log into the site - clever you! Some people are made to be great parents for piggies - some not - imagien if she had a litter - would she resent vets fees if some of the pigs were ill but ''ugly!''...who knows......i adore them all - uglier the better really!

Ugly is not a word in my vocabulary at all - I dont like it

There is beauty in everything as long as you take the time to look for it

Aaaaawwww! Herbie and Oscar are seriously cute. Lovely agoutis, like Jerry.

kelly youre a saint ...not to have knocked her fat head off her shoulders >:(
no animal is ugly
and what to one person isnt cute to another is, ( look at all the post of differnt piggies , no one say aggggh ugly pig !)all piggies are perfect whether 3 generations of blood lines or a 'bitsa' pig , love them all there all beautiful to me & ive never yet seen an ugly piggie
loads 'ugly' people tho , horrid ,cruel, selfish , nasty , empire building people , give me a animal any day :)

aww LOL! I would've gladly slapped her if I could reach!

Agree with you - animals never let you down also, that's why they are top of my list :)

Oh dear, I have a friend who is a bit like this - claims to love animals but couldn't give a you know what about 'ugly' ones and actively hates some kinds (!) 98) Shallow.

No animal is ugly - that is a word I would reserve for certain human 'qualities'

What can I say? other than she's a total freak! How can anyone say something like that about a piggy >:(
The only thing I've come across that puts some people off (god knows why) is pink eyes. I've heard of many people wanting piggies 'but not those with the pink eyes, they scare me' ? ?. I even heard of one person wanting himalayans......with dark eyes ;D ;D. Obviously they don't know that dark eyed himalayans are genetically impossible ;D
