I've been having a fairly hard time of it all lately, and particularly over the last couple of days. Maisie (avatar piggie) has never been a big fan of laptime, she'll tolerate me so long as I'm providing a steady supply of grub :)). Just as I feel I've reached breaking point she has transformed into an affectionate little angel, happy to cuddle up for ages. She climbs right up to stare into my eyes as if she's checking up on me. I'm probably being an idiot but I feel like she knows I'm not coping with life right now and is trying to do her bit to help.

Sorry it's all sounding a bit "Woe is me" rolleyes but I'm curious to see if other people have had similar experiences.

I've heard similar stories, but it's never happened to me. :( Gilbert's the same for cuddle time. Actually..his mood is very random LOL. Somestimes he's a very good boy and othertimes he's a nightmare. :))

I think they do know, and it's there special way of saying its ok!

Fred heard you were feeling blue, so he wanted me to share this with you

I'm sure animals can sense our moods. After my beloved Farquhar died last year, Matilda her cage companion who normally hates being handled, let me pick her up with no fuss and cuddled into my neck as I wept over the loss of Farquhar. Matilda normally kicks like a bucking bronco and runs for her life, but she was very subdued and I like to think we were mourning the loss of Farquhar together. Animals can provide such comfort during sad times and they certainly lift my spirits.
