i dont know why this is, but as i have a few piggies, people often ask me do i breed to sell or why dont i breed to sell for money - some people assume that cos we have 11 piggies we want to breed them - also my boyfriend was asked if we wanted to mate our girl english bull terriers as they are pedigrees with his mates dog - they would offer us £500 to just mate them - he said no way. He did actually say - why would we do that and he said for the money and Mark my boyfriend said - listen there are loads of english bull terriers in rescue, so why create more when there are loads out there looking for homes already and that's the first time he has ever said anything like that! Some people just think oh great lets make money by breeding our piggies / dogs, crazy man....I am totally against breeding and only ever had babies cos I was new to piggies and was told we had a male but it wasn't - but anyway thought I would post this!

I got that in my current job, I work with three other people and two of them asked how many guinea pigs I had,i have four. they asked is that two of each? i was like, well, no obviously there are more than two types of guinea pig (my god,I'm so nieve) they said, no i mean two boys and two girls? i said no,ive got four girls and they're like, that's so boring, you'll get no babies that way! my god,i was so angry. i was like DONT YOU KNOW THERE'S ENOUGH BREEDING GOING ON WITHOUT ADDING TO IT? THINK RESCUE!

Everyone assumes I breed as I have 13 (soon to b 14 once the Japster arrives) but no I am an extremist when it comes to rescue...haha The petshop I use said do you breed? I'm like no I rescue and foster.

Makes me mad. :)
 
I never get people saying about breeding to me, they presume i have got kids because i have got six piggies and two rabbits.

Being 32 they all think i have got piggies and rabbits for my kids lol no kids here!

I dont have any kids here neither, so the animals are just for me :)
I am like a kid even though I am 28 and my bf is 38!
 
I get asked that all the time, its bloomin annoying mallethead

I had 2 delivery guys bring in my new washing machine today and one says
"cor, thats a menagerie, what are they"

Me "they are guinea pigs"

Him "oh, do you breed them?"

Me "no, I rescue them and they end up living with me"

"Oh never heard of anyone doing that before, do you rescue hamsters cos my daughters is so bl***y noisy, I want rid" grrrrgrrrrgrrrr
 
I got asked that by an old friend who contacted me on Facebook (who does breed piggies 'because they are cute' - the less said about that, the better!) Sheasked me if I wanted to breed with any of my piggies and I said no, that I'd adopted them and that I was pro-rescue. I was also talking to someone the other day who looked most surprised and almost disappointed when I told them I have four boys.

GRRRR! I have four piggies who are happily living with me thank you very much! Why would I want to be responsible for more homeless piggies?! Honestly!:(
 
Well, we have seven piggies and three bunnies .. and yes, I've been asked to breed them but with that many being in shelters around the country I rather not add to them.
I do have kids and they own one piggy each but the mayority of the care is fallen back on me. I'm not complaining, I love them!

I find that with that many people being unresponsible for their animals they all should be de-sexed before they actually find a new home, that would stop a lot of the animals ending up in shelters.

"Miracle of Birth" is great to show kids but then balance the books and show the kids also the "Miracle of Euthanasia" in shelters, I gather not a lot of parents are taking that step because it would upset their little darlings, but that is a fact of life!
My kids have learned that animals die and yes, they are sad about it but they also cherish the moments they've had with them.

and of course because snowflake had her babies recently people have been saying "hear one of your guineas had babies, have you got anymore litters planned because......"
 
grrrr I just got off the phone to a mad woman as she is selling 4 guineas 2 girls and 2 boys to mate and breed..............I tried explaing to her that i have 34 that people thought would find good homes but she was just a stupid person that didnt care about them.I pointed out that the 4 she had were supposed to be with her forever and here she was dumping them ........here i go again sorry guys just upset
 
and another one! i rehomed 2 boars not so laong ago and owner rang wanting to buy a female to breed.i explained we dont rehome sows for that very reason and that the two will kill each other if a sow is put in with them.i also pointed out his adoption contract states they will not be used for breeding.they said oh ill try the pet shop.
 
Yes have had people asking if I breed them when they hear how many pigs I own. I tell them NO my boys have been done I take in rescues.
I have a pure breed dog too and lost count how many times I have been asked to stud him to there girly my answer was no way. Now I can say hardly he had the snip Monday:)) hes a pet not a breeding machine.
 
Unfortunately people do make the assumption that if you have more than two piggies that you are a breeder.

I currently have seven. Two neutered boars, four sows and Junior, my little unexpected boar.

I love them all and I know that I would get really attached if mine had any babies ... which shouldn't happen.

Princess arriving pregnant was a surprise when Junior popped into the world and then I just have to keep him.

Also when they ask about George yes he's complete But no i have no intention of breeding from him and when i mention the grade 2 hear mumour they soon change the subject!
