Do you ever take your piggys anywhere?

Just been reading through Peter Gurney's Proper Care of Guinea Pigs for the 100th time ;D. The picture near the beginning of 2 piggys in the shopping basket out for a visit to the park, always make me laugh. ;D. I also read about some of the piggy visits he did with children in hospital....

So got me wondering - how many people actually take their piggys places? Not neccessarily in a shopping basket but out and about to places other than the vet/boarding facilities?

I can honestly say - no! When my rabbit was younger he would often come visiting people with me but the piggys have always stayed at home!

My mum wanted to go into the supermarket on way back from vets with Sooty. She wanted me to carry him in with me but thankfully we just took him home and went later :D

haha can you imagine a line of piggies following us to the supermarket picking out their own fruit and veg etc

i can see my lot pushing one of the big trollys round & having a much on the way !

when they go to the vets often I go to the chemist across the road on way back for medicines that i can get cheaper for the pigs and my dog, like piriton for max for itching etc, and they love to see whats in the box, not sure if a food shop would let me in, but mine only go to the vets and home either by car or walked

You know that always makes me laugh too ;D

I doubt i will take Leo many places. If he gets more confident in the future i might take him to the odd pet show but i'm guessing if i take him anyway it will only be too the vets and hopefully i might never have to do that!

Sadly not that long after that book was published the pen pushers at Great Ormond Street hospital banned him from bringing the pigs in for "health reasons".

The furthest my piggies go is from my house to my mum's lawn in the summer(2 minutes by car). We have a communal garden at our flats but my neighbours let their dog pee on it >:(

The only place I have ever taken my guineas apart from the vet is to open days at our vet and to some outdoor fundraising events.
I've only ever taken my own, which I knew were placid, people friendly and not phased by much.

Personally I wouldn't routinely take them out and about as such as I don't think even the laid back ones would particularly enjoy it.
But I can only speak about my own pets :)

I agree - I don't think mine would enjoy it much. Though Peter's in the shopping basket seemed ok so I guess it depends on the pig.

A friend of mine is a guide leader and she asked whether I would be willing to bring my piggys and rabbit to a guide meeting so the girls could look at them, hold them and I could tell them about proper care etc and my answer was an immediate no. My piggys are happy to be picked up and fussed by me but they would hate to be surrounded and poked at by loads of children! My rabbit is on old man and enjoying his glory years with a quiet life. I would not put them throught the stress.

Saying all that though, I was walking my dog last weekend and someone was out and about with their pet rat so I guess it takes all sorts ;D
