........ ask you if you wouldn't mind having a few more ::) :o

It seems like every time someone I know hears about a guinea pig on the look out for a new home, they seem to make a beeline to me to see if I'd like to re-home some more .

I had my 1st pig in Sept last year who came from a friend,
I re-homed 2 babies from another friend in Jan,
1 freecycle pig in March :(,
Another 1 came to me via my childminders friend, after loosing her cage mate in early May
and now another friend has asked me if I would like to take 2 pigs looking for a new home from his colleagues daughter who no longer wants them :'(

I don't mind adding to my piggy family bless them :smitten:, just wondering if anyone else finds that they seem to have a steady flow of people asking them to re-home piggies too ::)

Lucky you! I get that with the bunnies, not so much the guinea pigs.

I do rescue a few around here if I see them advertised in the local newspaper or the pinboard at the milkbar and then I try to re-home them to a good home....most of the time they stay though! ;D

I had a rescue last year with a guinea pig where the owner didn't want the lone piggy anymore and had neglected it. I got Rhani which was mite infested, had cataract in both eyes, claws bend and too long which then impacted on the foot, internal problems hence the huge fluid intake and was around five years of age. She lived happily for another six months here before heading over the Rainbow bridge.

I've found a rabbit in the next suburb running around on the oval and I got him, put posters up everywhere but no-one claimed him back. So he stayed, too. A couple of days ago I got given next door neighbours rabbit, because they think he is weird. He is rather sweet to me! And he is now in the hutch under Bunny - so another Stayer!

There is a duck! in a paddock near my home and I've put some shelter down for her and some food but she can fly and I couldn't catch her. So I look after her this way.... I give it another try with a big C & C Cage and see if we can get her that way.

So yeah, once people have realised that you like animals and are looking after them they tend to bring you all sorts to look after and if you are like me - you can't really say NO, then you'll end up with more and more over the years. ;D :D

Yup, in the last 12 months, I have taken in:
1 russian hamster,
1 goldfish and
2 guineas. (which was great as we were already searchung for 2 girls for a lone neutered boar)

All from work collegues. Only yesterday someone started talking to me about their sons bearded dragons that he isn't looking after too well. ::)

I love them all to peices but we are getting full, and I'd rather leave the vacancies we have open for GP's, as thats really where my heart is.

Its easy to fall into the trap of thinking you are the best person to care for the offered creature, and therefore you have no option but to take it. I've seen people behave like that, but the truth is most times the person looking to rehome would (given a little more effort on their part) be able to find the perfect home. But people like us (who are soft) are the obvious first port of call, and we read so many horror stories, we almost feel obliged to take n the creature. Just in case they palm it off on some animal torturing psychopath. I'll be being a little tougher going forward.

My priority is the pets I already have.

(but there is always space for a couple more GP sows ;))

Me too ;D

Yep, and I feel bad b/c I know they would have a better home with us, but we just can't have any more. My husbands friend wanted us to take hers. She said she would give us the cage (which is all metal including the bottom)! No thanks. Anyways, I just don't understand getting rid of your pets. Yes, sometimes they can be a hassle, but all kids are. LOL I would feel like I was abandoning my children. I realize in rare instances there is a major problem that couldn't be avoided, but most people just jump into guinea pigs without reading the signs.
