Well, I have recently bonded my two rabbits together and they are sharing the one hutch. I now don't know what to do with the second hutch. I was going to sell it but then I thought why not let the McMac live in there for the summer. It would be much nicer then the dark garage. I always feel so bad for keeping him in there.

What do you guys think? I will move him back when it starts to get colder but if it gives me an excuse to get him out of the garage for a bit then should I?

Go on, I am certain he would love the fresh air, and you could always pop him back in the garage at night.

i would definitely move him outside. he'll love the fresh air and he'll be fine. mine live outdoors all year round. they have got shelter from the wind and rain etc and really well insulated hutches though.

Ok I will :) I would feel a lot better for it. I hate having him live in the garage. There is no natural light or windows and it is jam packed with all of my brothers stuff now so it is actually a little difficult to get to him :( and it would help stop my mum complaining about any smells or hay getting everywhere.
Great thing about the C&C cage is you can pack it away really easily :)

But he has always lived inside. What would be a good way to let him get used to living outside?

i cover my hutches with an old duvet and blankets to keep them warm along with snuggle sacs, insulated hutch etc. you could perhaps cover the hutch to make sure he is warm enough. is the garage heated that he is in now. if it isn't, i don't suppose it will be any different really for him when you cover the hutch at night

It does have heating in but I don't think it is ever on since it would just all go out the metal door anyway.

I think I will keep him out one warm day and then when evening comes I will cover him up with towels etc etc.

What bedding do you use for your piggies hutch? I use just hay for my rabbits but I wouldn't mind keeping him in fleece if I could, help keep him toasty. I would just be worried if it got wet or something.

i've always used shavings and hay for them to snuggle in but i have recently started using vetbed. i think it's great. it keeps them warm and dry. i clean them out every wednesday - clean vetbed etc and poo pick twice a day in between. i'd never use anything else now

Hay would probably be nice for him to snuggle in :)

I think I would use wood shavings but I need to find a good supplier near me. My local pet shop has started stocking this awful one that is actually like dust so I have had to move him onto fleece.

I don't think anywhere local sells megazorb or else I would use that.

I've bought a Snuggle sac Ultra for when the piggies move out in summer, just for those chilly nights.

I'd be worried about him being out there on his own actually, I think if I only had one piggy I'd want to keep him inside as he may get cold on his own :...

Anyway, heres the link

It's double wadded and you can ask Helen to make one with a pouch at the bottom for a snugglesafe :))

Yeah I did worry about him being alone. Not just for warmth reasons :( I know last night it had a bit of a chill because there hadn't been any clouds...

I think he will be alright as long as I take good precautions. Like snuggle safes and covering the hutch up at night :)

I'd recommend putting some sort of fleecey thing in there, even if its just a snuggle sac, as they keep the heat well as they can snuggle in them and it's like a big duvet :)

My hutch piggies live in the garage over winter and then get moved out when it's nice. As it is they're still in the garage because it's been naff weather but if it is still nice at the weekend they can finally be moved back outside which will be much nicer for them. They're already used to the temperature as our garage is old and has no heating but it's more shelter from the wind that they needed. So moving out at this time of year won't be too much different for them and they have a cover when its windy or wet to protect them.

If you take precautions I think your piggy will be fine. :)

Yeah I think the temp is the same. It just helps keep them out of any nasty wind and rain like you said.

I have to stock up on more hay and stuff and then I can get his new hutch ready. I am quite excited actually. I am sure he will love having fresh air and sunshine and hearing the birdies sing :D

Mum will be happy to have a bit of her garage back :))

I normally keep my piggies in a hutch in their own shed, however, i've just had to move the girls back indoors temporarily. We are getting alterations done to the drains, we are fairly positive that one of the girls is pregnant, so we've moved them away from the noise to save startling them.

Have you got a hutch cover already? Have it open during the day and cover up on chilly nights/wet weather

It's a gorgeous day here today and all my piggies are out eating grass, I shall bring them back inside later.

Did you get any further with finding a friend for McMac?

I have a tarp for each hutch plus on to keep on top of the run so plenty of that :)
Yeah it has been nice here too, a little cloudy but he has been out all day.

I was talking to a forum member about seeing some baby guineas at a petting farm she works at, but I think she had been busy with her uni stuff so we never got around to it.
