Well after much cleaning and reorganization I have found room to put my guinea pig cage back up and now it is time to look for one. I have googled rescues and looked around at a few of them but no piggie seems to stick out. I really have my heart set on either a Teddy or an Abyssinian as I have had them before and really loved them. But I haven't seen any Teddies anywhere I have been and none of the Abyssinians stick out. How long have you spent looking for the perfect pig? Or do you seem to find the right one the first time?

Mine seemed to find me rolleyes Although Jeff was a prime example of finding the "right" piggy - he was at the animal shelter I was volunteering at, and I wanted him immediately - and guess who's sat on my lap right now.... :))

Have you had a look at the rescue and rehoming section of the forum? There's always lots of established pairs of piggies looking for homes, all with their own story, and often people are happy to help out with transportation and such.

I never really had that trouble with my girls, I saw Pickles zooming around in her cage and decided that I wanted her there and then. We were then looking for another one, and my mum saw Pumpkin hiding away in a pigloo and I fell in love x) I would just say keep searching, you'll find the right one eventually :)

This could have been written by me! I lost my last piggie last week, a sweet, tiny Rex (my avatar). Her friend was an abby, a pew & she was nuts so they were totally different. I like to think they were waiting for me as well.

Now I will have a couple of months off until I find a pair that I fall in love with again :(

I have looked at the rehoming section here but unfortunately it seems everyone here lives in the UK and I live in the US :(

Poppy'sMum - so sorry to here about your loss. And I hope you find the right pair as well. I have a feeling this is going to be a long search.

One of our pigs Humphrey Kinda chose my other half Emma She gave him a cuddle and he fell asleep in her arms we kinda couldnt say no after that...

I just went and got whatever ones I liked :)) Some based on cuteness, some based on age, or just whatever were available :) I couldn't really know their personalities at first, cos they weren't used to me or anything, so just based my choice on other things :)

mallethead I didn't see you were in the US - there are some US members, maybe create a thread aimed at them (like Calling US piggy owners so that it gets their attention) and see where they got their piggies from? Keep looking, and you'll eventually find "the one" (or two!) :))

I'm in the US too! What I did to find my piggies was go on Petfinders dot com. All you do is enter your zip code, how far you want to drive, and what age of animal you want. It should bring up a ton of results. What you do if you want to filter it for only guinea pigs is click "small and furry" in the drop down menu and type "Guinea Pig" into the breed.

Petfinders is excellent! The piggies on there are in rescues or in humane society shelters, so if you found a piggy off of there, you'd be giving a homeless piggy a loving home :)

I've been searching on pet finders every day. And there's only 10 or so that are on there right now but none of them are really what I'm looking for. I think I might just be too picky :(

We knew that once my older car past that we would get a g.p. My daughter was asking for a hamster. But since I had a G.P in high school I wanted another. So we had it all planned that we would get one when Hannah was off for Spring Break. But she and I went around to pet stores one Saturday and saw Charlie. The employees told us that he had been there since September (6 months) and he was the only one in his cage. I went home and told my Hubby about him. This pig was tugging at my heart. I was told by hubby to go get him and bring him home! So that's what I did! LOL.

And I must say I am soo glad that I did! He is just AWESOME!

So yes I do think the right one will hit you square in the face (sort of speaking lol)
