Hello,
I read a thread recently and although it was not linked to this subject in the thread there was a photo of some piggies happy playing then came comments when people had noticed one of the piggies in that photo had half closed eyes and this is often a sign of pain.
Well I have never seen two of my boys squint at all but my third one does it all the time, should I be worried does any one else have a well piggy that does this? This little piggy is the one who had hay in one of his eyes a few weeks ago and was treated by our guinea savvy vet, getting the all clear a week later. He (fudge) will half close his eyes when I talk to him, fuss him, while he eats, or when he's laid out relaxing. The vet seems to think he is 100% fine. He's my shy fella always last to the food bowl etc, I've got another apt at the vets later today for their weekly weigh in and dose check should I bother her again about this do you think? I've just watched him do this again so I thought I would run it by you clever people in the hope you will put my mind at rest. The photos are of him when I got him so he was quite poorly at the time but this is often how I see him when he's relaxed, the other do don't do this at all :( I think you can see the difference with his eyes from the two photos.image.webp
Many thanks, kell x

I think he just looks sleepy. He's very cute.

I think the photo you saw was to do with a skin condition (or possible one) and it was the eyes together with the painful looking skin and I think the pig looked slightly hunched too. It was only a guess anyway but the combination made me think they looked like they may have some pain.

Is it just one eye? Piggies half close their eyes when sleeping, and pink eyed piggies are also more sensitive to sunlight; you need to take those two factors into account.

Yes Helen I think it was a post like that Was about a skin issue, I can not remember which one it was as I was going to reply in it, stubbled across the post/thread as I've been read so many to make me more piggy savvy :) thank you for replying, I bet he's just a shy fella then and this is just something he does.

Oh having pink eyes sounds a good reason wiebke thank you and the reason the other two (both of which have black eyes) don't do this. He seems to half close both at the same time maybe he's just a placid laid back fella, he's the one that copies me when I mimic the face wash you said about, he eats just fine his health and over all condition has improved no end over the last month he seems happy and well to me...worry over then
Thank you again
Kell x
