COVID-19 Do you think the coronavirus will cause a hay shortage?

My last order of haybox meadow was a bit dodgy too, though the timothy was still lovely. We bought some Pillow Wad meadow from Amazon too and that is very nice but much shorter softer strands than we usually get so its nice to stuff in treat bags but a to brush off the fleece if we put a lot of it in the cage!

Hay Box have closed for new orders until 6th April. They are still fulfilling subscriptions. I have a subscription due next week but they are saying it will take longer to process so my boys are on smaller rations of their better hay. I still have plenty of poorer quality meadow hay so they will have to make do!

I ordered a hay box before lockdown and its beautiful hay. If you want basicly the same hay, alfalfa King Timothy in pets at home is just as good and bright green. Although yea, you gota go and fetch it

I’ve got hay coming from a farm hopefully soon (delayed in transit in Merseyside, as of yesterday) was meant to be here yesterday

I haven't opened the 2 boxes of meadow hay I received from Haybox around Monday last week. I better check them and see how it is.

Do you have any left right now?
Yeah I’ve got about three quarters of the bag we had left over from last time we nearly ran out. Got a bale coming so hopefully that should last us. I refuse to stockpile because I know there are people who would need it more than I do!

Nothing😢 I don't know what to feed my piggies now even the green grass in my garden is not growing anymore😢😢
gosh i am sorry to hear this.... does anyone near you have a garden you could get some from? are all the pet shops closed? so sorry xx

That's so mean 😭😭 I wish I could help! X

I received my delivery a couple weeks ago and my meadow hay was awful, practically straw. A real shame because I loved my first order a couple months ago! I sent Haybox an email with some photos (attached) comparing old hay to new. I got the following back:

Not best pleased, though I know where they are coming from. My pigs still love their Timothy hay though, a lot more than timothyhay.co.uk! I've ordered my next lot of Sweet Green Hay through Nature's Own. Fingers crossed it's better quality.

Yes I found this too. I've just ordered hay from "box of hay. Co. UK" hoping it's better than haybox. Also haybox say they're not taking any more orders just now to catch up.

I had an email on Friday to say my Haybox subscription has been despatched, fingers crossed it arrives tomorrow.

😞i m just waiting since many days that hay delivery gets started😞 i dont even want to eat my food when my piggies are sitting without hay and pellets 😞😞
Poor you and poor piggies! Perhaps you could give them some brown cardboard to nibble, that will at least give them a little coarse fibre to help their tummies.

Do you have anything for them to eat? Please try and ask your neighbour again and explain they really really need their decorative grass... I hope they agree and your restrictions soon lift so you are in a better situation xx

If anyone needs hay, I ordered some from timothyhay.co.uk, after I wasn't too impressed with the quality from hay-and-straw

It took longer than usual, ordered on Thursday, arrived on Tuesday though so still not too bad. Things are constantly changing so idk what their supplies are like now but when I ordered it did say they have plenty of supply

Edit: I've just checked and they are still taking ordered but delayed delivery (they usually offer next day)

I m trying my best 😥 I tried ordering some hay from USA and Portugal which cost me £30 for 2 pounds of hay😥😥 the companies said it ll take a month or more to reach me because of the coronavirus pandemic😥😥

Are you sure it isn’t artificial grass? If not maybe you could reason with them, maybe offer something in exchange if they’re reluctant?

Even if they said yes they won't give us the grass everyday 😢 and they have dogs roam all over their garden

So sorry to hear you're unable to get food for your piggies. Are there any farms nearby or people who keep livestock? They may be able to help you.

I did actually inquiry about it but I was told that horses here eats some sort of seeds not hay because it's really expensive for farmers to buy hay yes maybe I can find the cow hay but it's very thick and weird would it be fine?

I'm not sure what kind of hay it is. But you could always try them with some and see if they will eat it until you can get what you usually feed them.

@Ritika is this website any good for you? I'm not sure if it's expensive as I don't know the economic/currency status?
But looks like it's free delivery to certain parts of India?

Buy ZuPreem Nature's Promise Western Timothy Hay Small Pet Food Online at Low Price in India | Puprise

Do you have any other neighbours with lawns, road verges for grass or know anyone with cattle or horses, a field nearby?

Grass would be ideal, even if you have to wash it off before giving to your Guineas.

Can you get hold of any grass seed to grow yourself? They need something to eat&keep their teeth worn down.

Maybe cut a small turf from your garden & put in a tray, keep watering this grass to ensure a constant supply?

Sorry you're having such a hard time with getting food for your furry babies, big hugs stay safe. xx

Alfalfa is high in calcium but anything will do if you've got none. Hope she can give you some x
