Do you use a hay rack?

I got some new hay racks the other day. wire hay racks, and my poor girl Flora got her head stuck in it. so ive taken them all out. Most of the time i just put it into their cages to let them do as they like with it. For my messier boars who will pee on it, i have a large plastic hay rack for the outside of their cages so they can pull the hay in when they like.:)

Some people put them in a plastic tray like a small cat litter tray, or in a cardboard box or something.

I have hay racks but now I just use them for putting grass or lettuce in. I put the hay on the ground because I think it encourages them to eat more hay, which is healthier for them. So I have the hay as bedding. You just need to top it up a bit every day. :)

I do have hay racks, but I find piggies tend to eat far more hay if it's at a lower level. I like the willow toys you can stuff with hay and put on the floor of the cage, or even just a shallow box.

I've got something called rollin in the hay as I found that hay racks were messy and wasteful. It's fun watching the piggies as they spin the ball to find the best bits :))

We have a hay box from Piggy Paradise and a cat litter tray. Have just ordered a kitchen from Cavy couture which will replace the litter tray.

I use a hay rack, every time I have tried a tray or similar the boys just use it as a toilet mallethead

I took the rack out for a while when Ruffle was a baby as he climbed into it and got stuck once, but now he is much bigger there is no way he could climb up there and the rack has been returned.

I use a curved C&C grid as a hay rack cable tied to the side, they do like to climb in though so i have blocked off the ends.

I use cat litter trays inside their cages and put pine pellets on the bottom to soak up the urine. I change them out frequently. I used to have their hay in holders on the sides of the hutches but they love running in the hay so I now put it in the trays. :)

I used to have a wire hay rack but when I got my Erin who was a baby at the time, I removed it as I was worried that she may get trapped in it. I now use toilet roll tubes stuffed with hay as the girls think it is a game trying to get the hay out. They also have hanging hay balls to provide more stimulation http://www.animalmagicpetsupplies.c...ObjectPath=/Shops/BT3336/Products/Smallpet002 They are bedded on hay as well so will also eat that although they do have nicer hay in the toilet rolls and hay balls :) I haven't gone back to using a hay rack.

I use a tissue box as a make shift hay rack for my piggies, tis cheap and can be colourful too :)

No, as not using a hay rack was one of the conditions in my rescue agreement.

I buy farm hay which is as cheap as it's nice and the pigs love it more than any of the fleeces, hideys and other things I've bought for them. I've tried hay balls and boxes, but they eat much more when it's on the ground, which makes sense if you think about where their mouths are. Pigs who eat lots of hay have good chances of staying healthy. Yes, they pee on it but it's a cheap, healthy biodegradeable food, hidey toy and comfort item all in one :) I never consider it wasted.

My piggles live on hay, but they do have a hayrack with Oxbow Orchard Grass.

The rack is fixed to a wall in their hutch and is right next to their hidey table, so they can eat either through the bars of the rack or from the top when sat on their table :)

They have two of the little wire balls too, but I don't use them often

Mine just have a huge pile to eat sleep and play in, its changed daily any special hay e.g timothy is scattered on top and some placed by their food bowl

I use the hay ball the best thing is you can hang them up anywhere you want....

i have about 6 hay racks that i never use any more as they dont seem to use them, so i just put hay on the floor for them

I wish mine would use a hay rack but they hardly eat hay from the rack so I end up putting it in a cat litter tray where they poop on it and then won't eat that either because it's covered it poop. I put dried grass in a bowl for them to discourage them from pooping on it and it lasts until they poop on it. I dispair. B****y pooping machines. :))x)
