So the other day my mo said I had to figure somthing out because my pigs smell! Its def not there cage! It's just them, mom said they must have like a sent to warn off predators or somthing in te wild, she said my old pig smelt to, just the smell off the shavings masked it, I now use fleece. I dont smell them really, I just smell hay...

Do your pigs have a sent? Or is it just mine ...

Also what do I do to make my room/ house smell better.

I was thinking putting popery(sp?) in the house were the pigs arnt, but I don't no what to do for my room were there at. Any suggestions?

Mine's always the combination of hay and pee+poop that make them smells, so I clean out their hay beds twice a week. Other than that I don't really have much problems with smells, of course a little pee smell lingering around is uh, normal.

I have been told that half an onion placed on the windowsill will help absorb smells ( specifically paint ) No idea if it works but no harm in trying :)

I must say I have really noticed a difference in smell since I bathed the piggies and changed them onto fleece and paper bedding.

I have paper on the base, then a thick vet bed , followed by a fleece.
I take the paper out daily and the fleece gets shaken out everyday and washed every other day. The vet bed get changed weekly :)

So much less mess and definitely less smell :)

How often do you bath your piggies - they need to be kept clean as well as their cage, bedding etc ?

I havnt bathed them before, but iv only had them like a month or two, there cage is swept every 2 days, newsprint cleaned out once a
Week, and hay cafe is cleaned every day all hay is tossed and new stuff put in.

I dont clean the newsprint often (once a week) as we only get flyers/newsprint once a week, also my cage is 5 1\2 feet by 5 1/2feet, and they manly go in the hay box.

Also they are both females

I don't know what my boys do, they will have a bath and a couple of weeks later they will be gross again. rolleyes They're longhair which makes it worse!

It sounds like your piggies are very clean Chicklet - I bet they just smell like pigs usually smell. It's probably just that visitors to the house or other relatives aren't used to it.

You might consider bathing your piggies in the future but it's not something you need to do super regularly.
