My grassed run is growing lovely with it's own supply of dandies :) but there are also lots of dock weeds too, do i need to weed these before i allow the piggies to graze or are they safe to leave in? :-\

Dock leaves can be fed sparingly before the flowers appear, after that the Oxalic Acid content is too high. :) I would let them graze on them, though they'd probably go more for the grass! Just watch them and see :)

Really? OK..

In piglopeadia it says they are poisonous but young ones seem to be fine. I have never experienced it with mine.

But the obvious choice is left up to you :)

Well if you're in doubt, better to do some weeding, as all piggies are different and it could be fine with some piggies and maybe a different piggie it could upset their tummy O0

We're back to the definition of 'poisonous' I guess. Docks are high in Oxalic Acid after flowering (so yes the older plants) which leads to other problems. Poisonous would, in my opinion, be a strong term for it. I'm wary of feeding them to mine as I am with a lot of those type of foods.

It should say I WOULDN'T let my pigs graze on them, though they'd probably go for the grass, but I can't modify it now, too late!

Thanks everyone :) i did do some weeding & yep the boys munched on the grass, the run is approx 10ft x 14ft - they all used one edge, approx 6" of it, like a dual carriageway- bless 'them  ;D ;D

WOW! I THINK EVEN I COULD FUN AROUND IN THAT! Have you got a pigture of the run?

This was the run on 18th April just before we sowed the grass seed

And the run today, they all ran down the willow edging on the left :o

Now i've got to put a netting roof on it & they'll be safe from kestrels etc
