Well today was the day Dodge had his op.

He seemed very perky on the way to the vets, trying to destroy the nice towel I gave him in his carrier! When we got there everyone fussed him and I gave him a cuddle and left his 'packed lunch' - my vet likes you to take their favourite food in with them to help them eat when they come round.

After a nervous morning at work, I spoke to the vet at 2pm and was told he had come round and already was munching cucumber. Mum rang back again at 3.30ish to be told he was a bit quiet but we could pick him up after work.

Went to get him, he looked a bit scared but ok, the wounds are a bit bigger than I expected but nice and clean. My vet glues over the stitches to help them stop being chewed so he is a superglued guinea pig! They showed me how to carefully syringe feed him and said if he didn't poo once he got home and didn't eat normally, I should do this every so often. Clearly he just dislikes pooing in public though, as as soon as we got him home he went about five times! He's on sheets of newspaper and towels only.

He has since had some more cucumber, some corn on the cob leaves, and picked at his meusli/nuggets but as he never eats much of this anyway I am not worried he isn't tucking into them. He has just been munching a lot of hay so glad he's getting his fibre. He isn't drinking much but has had more cucumber than normal so he has got water from this, and as yet I am not too worried as his poo is normal and not dry or hard.

Going back tomorrow for a post-op check up and then again in a week or so I think. So far though he seems to be doing well, but misses wheeking to the others :( oh well not long before he gets his very own ladyfriend :))

So have I messed anything up yet or are we ok?!

Has been the most stressful day of my life bar the day my share horse tried to die on us (long story for another day) glad he is home!

Sounds perfect although I'm no expert! Hes a lucky piggie to be with you ! And poor pony hope he/she is ok ! x

Not the best person to advise but I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Sounds like you're doing just about everything right! Lucky little guy, with all that cucumber!

Wishing him a quick recovery, I bet he'll enjoy his soon to come lady friend :D

Sounds like he is doing OK. Please do not be worried if his poos are not normal looking for the first day or two - he's had a lot of meds.

It usually takes about two days for the body to settle and the wounds to start knitting, but afterwards, he should be perking up quickly.

Best of luck!

My Ralph has had the snip today as well .Some of you may remember he had a really bad abcess a few wheeks ago but thanks to lots of advice from on here about zithromax etc. he has made a full recovery.I have had quite a few boys snipped and follow the same routine as you seem to be doing .The only difference is that he has been put on Baytril for a few days in view of his previous history . Best of luck with your piggie.

I was a very tired mum last night and didn't get online, so I can update you all now, thank you for your responses I feel much better about what I am doing!

Dodge is doing very well, the vets were really quite pleased with him :-) his poos are looking like proper poos most definitely now and he is doing lots of them, cheeky thing has stopped using the paper and prefers the towel though, tsk! He has slowly been getting more active, he is getting a drop of Metacam in the mornings but tomorrow is his last day of that if he carries on like he was tonight...I keep telling him climbing is not allowed!

He finally started wheeking again today, he has always been very vocal but the past two days nothing, until tea time tonight he wheeked a bit :-) and then he popcorned! So definitely on the mend.

We are not out of the woods yet and I am keeping a close eye on his wounds but they look fine so far ~touch wood~ my OH won't look at them as it makes him wince haha!

Thank you all again, I felt a lot more confident getting him done having the advice on here :-) and Laura I am SO sorry I didn't reply I will reply now! x
