:0Hi Please can anyone help me. This morning I lost one of my male piggies Dodger. He has a friend Rodger and they loved each other to bits. Dodger showed no signs of being ill and I was shocked when I found him this morning as well as very upset. I rescued them both August as a pair and they are just a 1yr old. I'm worried about Rodger now as he is on his own, how long should I leave him alone before I get him a new friend and should I get him a young male as he was the boss although he is a very gentle giant of a guinea pig? Thankyou in advance

Sorry to hear of your loss (hugs)

It might be worth getting Rodger checked over by the vet if there was no signs of illness.

If Rodger shows signs of being depressed, not eating or drinking then you will probably want to get him a friend then. A rescue may be able to arrange boar dating for you xx

I'm sorry to hear about your guinea pig passing :(
With regards to getting a new friend how is he doing at the moment? Is he off his food or looking depressed?
And with what age you are most likely to look for a youngster would probably be best if he is quite dominant. You dont want another pig that is also dominant or it could end in trouble.

When Leo died, Africa self harmed (over licked one of his balls till it bled), and seemed very disinteresed in life. I gave him extra handling time and evenutally he brightened up and I got him a friend within a month... they aren't together now *** Corly is a grumpy pig.

BigThankyou. Rodger has had a little bit of food this morning and a cuddle, He has eaten a slice of apple aswell. He is staying in his little house as much as he can. I have the vet coming to the house soon as I'm having my 17yr old dog put to sleep today. Today is not a good day. ill get the vet to check Rodger when he comes and Dodger to see if he can see anything wrong

That is a very sad day for you :(

Hope you and roger are ok and get him a friend if and when you feel able x

Yes. Barney or bunnyrumble as we know him has been with us since he was 6 wks old. he has had a great life, he had been on almost every holiday with us, infact he has had more holidays than most humans. He has been a good dog and although I'm sad I know its the right thing to do for him now could of done with out my little pritty Dodger going today but in one way as least I know they both had good lifes and they want be alone as ill have them cremated together today. We had already planned to get a willow tree in a big pot for Barney so I will lay Dodger with him aswell. :(

aww I'm sorry to hear about your loss. iv had a tribe of 7 yorkshire terriers, growing up so had my fair share of vet visits and heart breaking moments so i know some what of the pain your feeling but I just keep thinking of the fun and happy times I had with them. I really hope you feel better soon.

Thanks to all for their kind thoughts and wishes. The vet checked over Rodger he is fine and has been given an good bill of health. Would have been a stroke or a heart attack that took poor Dodger, he has gone with Barney so they are not alone, they should be home by friday. Thanks again everyone, it never stops amazing me how kind you folk are even as strangers, its nice to know I will always have a kind friend on the this site to listern, share my sadness, and give advice x ALL ROUND!x>>
