MY piggie Max has a little sore belly, i noticed he had runny poos this morning - ive taken him off the veg and he seems alot better.

CAn you advise what i should buy for a ready first aid kit - this i REALLY need to get so what people have and where they have it would be great!

I have their lice treatment, but thats it.

cheers guys

AW thanks Bonnie - hes ok now, hes watching X factor on the sofa with it - it was just this morning - hes had the same as Scruffy but hes ok. I'm sure he will be fine.

Its just good also to have a kit ready in case of emergency too!

I'm sorry to hear Max hasn't been well today, but it is good to hear he's feeling better.

My first aid kit has expanded to three drawers full. Had too many things gone wrong over the last 2 years so am now stocked up for many things!

The standard first-aid kit I would recommend is:

Syringes
Cotton wool
Vetwrap
Probiotic (BioLapis/Avipro Plus/Benebac)
Syringe-feed powder (NutriPowder/Critical Care/Science Recovery)
Dioralyte
Vitamin C
Povidone Iodine (Chlorhexidine Gluconate/Saline as alternatives)
Veterinary Wound Powder

Much more, will update as I remember!

I tend to stock up just in pharmacies/chemists, or online from places like www.sphsupplies.co.uk and http://thistlecavies.tripod.com/shop/

Perhaps he's had a little too much Vitamin C and it's given him a tiny bit of diahorrhea? Bulk him up on hay and you'll probably see an improvement!
I keep in:
  • Syringes (1ml, 2ml, 5ml and 10ml depending on what they're going to be used for)
  • Lice spray
  • Ivermectin
  • Vitamin C liquid and tablets
  • Tea tree cream
  • Organic, vegetable baby food (for syringe feeding)
  • Cranberry juice (for UTIs)
Hope this helps!

thank you guys! can you say where you got yours from so i can have a look at buying some?

ooo just read you put where from ! its too late for me! thanks!he he

LOL :))

Do you have a Jollyes or a Pets at Home near to you? You can get the Beaphar Spot-On (Ivermectin) and the Lice Spray from those big pet superstore type shops. Vitamin C liquid/tabs can also be purchased at pet shops, providing they're suitable for pigs, or your Vet will probably sell them too. Syringes come from human pharmacies, just ask to buy a couple. The tea tree cream I use is from Jollyes, and the food and juice can come from a supermarket.

I keep Baby Sudafed in case of the snuffles - 0.3mls daily for up to 3 days. It can help if piggies have an allergy too. Vaseline - if fur falls out or protect any sores. I have used Rennie Rapeeze (1 tab crushed in water) when my piggie had a touch of bloat (recommended by Peter Gurney).
