Has anyone any experience of this?

My local Jollyes store has this for 8.65 (for a 15 kg sack!)

I am considering a switch to newspaper and hay

I never thought of trying WCF! I have a WCF locally.

Would you let me know in this thread how they get on with the Just Grass?

fab! thanks!

strange request but could you take a photo of it too. I can't find any photos of it (out of its packaging). If not, then don't worry.

thanks.

from what I could see through the opaque white plastic of the sack it looks similar to readi grass or fresh forage but not sure?

I'm considering using as bedding and food

I am using just grass at the moment not as good as readi grass in my opinion but the piggys don't mind it (and it is better than graze on), I wouldn't use it as a bedding tho it is not very absorbant and is fairly finely chopped

I've used it and my pigs munched it up happily :)

I get whichever dried grass I can as supplies over here are very hit and miss but the piggies seem to like this one and readigrass the best. They aren't so keen on Graze On or Fibre P though.

Bedding wise I think you'd find it gets soggy very quickly but if you clean out frequently it may not be an issue. You might find a product like Dixons Dustless better for bedding.

Isn't dixons dustless straw? I thought you weren't supposed to used straw for piggies?

And does that mean straw is more absorbent than hay?

They love laying on hay... currently use Carefresh after changing BACK to Carefresh from Megazorb... I HATE Megazorb.... it is so messy, gets in their food and the final straw (no pun intended!) was when a piece of Megazorb caused a minor impaction in Archie a couple of times.

I just cannot really afford Carefresh long term, not in 2 big C&Cs!

I did also use fleece at one point for a long while but found it harder to maintain and very smelly very quickly.

I want to try Hay as bedding as my piggies spend most of their time snuggled up in the hay pile corner that they have now (idly munching it as they lay there, they lazy buggas :)) ).

I have heard several people on here use it so thought I'd give it a try, is it not a good idea then?

Dixons Dustless is very soft chopped straw. Big thick stalky straw is bad because of the risk of eye pokes but the soft stuff is lovely and its such short soft bits that there is no danger of any pokes. Mine love the dixons and push it about to make lovely cosey nests and one piles it up to make a chin pillow for maximum lounging!

Hay as bedding is nice - just not practical with 23 piggies! I do find straw more absorbant but I had no problems with hay when I had fewer pigs to keep clean and fresh!

Lennypig, have you tried megazorb with a layer of meadow hay on top? It works well for my piggies. The hay stops the MZ from getting stuck in their food and fur (I have merinos, so MZ on its own is a no go)

I use pure pastures hay from the hay experts, which is pretty inexpensive, and I just change out the soiled stuff twice a day. It works out much cheaper than carefresh. A sack of MZ and 2/3 bags of hay lasts about 3 weeks in my cage, a ferplast 140.

I tried fleece and towels for a while but the pigs kept burrowing underneath it and sitting in their own mess so they're back on MZ and hay which I think they prefer anyway.

My 14 GP`s love `Just Grass`. They graze on it all day long. They wollow in soft hay and lay down with their back legs out eating `Just Grass`.

Also, I love the smell of it.

Anders, xx>>>

I've just been and got a sack of this for my pigs to see how they like it.

the decision is unanimous - its great!

my only wonder is, for pigs is this a complimentary feed or a food in itself?

i am going to get some from a horsey friend to try before i buy a big bag, but i also would like to know how it should be fed aswell or instead of hay?

well i have bought a sack of just grass as my two girl literally licked the plate clean, but luckily at the moment they are able to go out in the run at my parents house and loving it!
