I have my 3 guinea pig indoors. Which is better, because this weather in Florida is really hot and humid. But my question is does the air conditioners affect the piggies health. I keep my apartment cool because I'm always cold. But I do have central a/c. And people have told me it makes piggies have more URI. So I'm worry for my piggies. The a/c doesn't hit them directly. And I even put a blanket on top of there cages. But I want advice from piggies owner with more experience.

I'm bumping this up as it's something I'd also be interested to find out more about. I don't have a/c, but would be interested to hear from anyone that does.

I know from an US friend that she uses air conditioning because you are far more often faced with humid/hot summer weather than we here in Britain, and we just getting over the worst heat wave in 7 years - mostly without a/c because we need it so rarely!

You are doing absolutely right by not keeping the piggies directly in the air flow and by covering the side of the cage that could be affected.

You may need to keep an eye on the skin, too; as it can dry out a bit more easily and become flaky.

Yes the humidity here in Florida is really bad. So yes we have central heating and air conditioners. And I live in a apartment so I have my piggies inside. So thank you. I will keep an eye on my piggies and there skin. So far nothing. They seem really healthy and happy. I try keeping the apartment at 75°f or 77°f all day so my piggies won't have a heat stroke. They do sneeze from time to time but not bad at all, like the time Ugo had URI. I believe it can be the pellets dust or the bedding it usually happens I put fresh pellets or the bedding. But it's just in a blue moon.

Remember that airco or electricity can fail, so that you leave a few frosted bottles or ice pods with the pigs when you leave the house.

Ohh hear the electric doesn't go as much in Puerto Rico where I use to live. Lately there been a lot thunder storm and the lights been out twice. But I been home in both occasions. I will buy the ice pads. I didn't know about those. And will definitely have some frozen water to keep, just in case for emergency. Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.
