is there a certain number of times a year that you have to take your pigs for a check-up?

hwo do you find the policy? :)

i always regret not insuring the others so i've just insured eddie. i think for peace of mind it's worth it as we aren't in a position to save and can borrow a certain amount from family, but not hundreds and hundreds if there was a really serious problem.

we chose exotics direct and got 10% discount so it's £9.64 a month :)

There's no rules as to health checks etc because GPs dot require yearly vaccines like rabbits/cats/dogs etc. I however, would always recommend a general health check for GPs every 6 months or so, as a year to them and their metabolism is like 6-10 years for us.

thanks. i agree with regular checks. and we are going more regularly now anyway as maisie needs her cysts monitoring. so it should all be fine :)

Another option is saving on your vet account, our vets allow you to set up a direct debit and save with them, obviously not a safe as a insurance policy as run the risk of a high vet Bill before your savings add up a bit, but if you don't use it you can get your money back.....just a thought.

I must admit to scanning through the small print on my exotic direct policy and I am sure there was was something on there about having to have an annual check -up - i took all 7 of mine in in 2 batches the other week and was charged £17.50 for 3 of them to be thoroughly checked over and weighed (the price of a consult for 1 ) and was charged a 1.5 of a small animal consult fee for the other 4 by one of the partners of the practice,so coming in at £23 pound - so basically all 7 weighed and checked over for lumps, teeth bladders felt for gravelly sludge etc all for £40.I wouldnt take the risk of not insuring my car,and I dont expect money back from my car insureres if I dont have a claim - so I look at it as the same with the piggies - while I could affored a small bill I couldnt affored something running into a couple of hundred, and wouldnt want to have a pet put to sleep just because of a lack of funds

Having spent nearly £800 on one of mine since Christmas I'm getting the other 2 insured as I really can't afford it if the other 2 are ill :( I don't think a vet fund would have covered this to be honest, I'd need to save £70 a month to do it!

No there isn't, and the policy document is available to view on their website.

I have just claimed off them they are fab x
