Hi, I have two male Guinea pigs approximately 2 or 3 years old. One of my guinea pigs has had what looked liked discharge in one eye for quite a long time. When it first appeared I was thinking of taking him to the vet but it didn't become worse so I didn't. They have been to the vet since but I never mentioned it. Today I woke up and it has gotten much worse, and he is finding it hard to see out of that eye. As today is Sunday vet bills are overly expensive and so I was wondering a. What it is and b. If it's bad, do I need to go in today or can it wait until tomorrow?
Thank you!

The image won't attach for some reason, I will send it through later.

Sorry to say, but a pig having something not quite right for quite a long time. Thinking of taking him to the vet, then not. It's just unfair on the animal. Pigs do hide pain and illness, it's just their way so they don't appear vulnerable as the prey animals they are.

Get him seen by the vet when you can. Eyes can be bad, and you don’t want the larger cost of (hopefully not!) having it removed. I think with anything eye related piggy can be seen by a general vet. But if you have an exotics one then get them seen there. Send them an email explaining the background, and follow up with a phone call.

Let us know how you get on. Hopefully it’s something minor. Please also add your location to your profile. And:wel:

PS you can attach a photo using the ‘attach’ button below the typing square. Or the link button above on the button bar.

Eyes can deteriorate very quickly and as soon as you notice a problem they require vet treatment ideally within 24 hours of first noticing the problem to stop the problem from becoming worse. Please have your piggy seen by a vet.
Let us know how you get on when you see the vet
