I've owned my oldest piggy for 2 years and my youngest for a month with 7 in between. And I feel like I know mostly all their quirks and traits but some people will say very specific things about their pigs that I would not pick up with mine! Like my oldest girl is boss and the food hog. My youngest boys are the cuddlers. My oldest boys prefer to be talked to but not held and picked up. I can tell which wheek is who. But I feel like I don't really know my pigs and it makes me sad. Like I don't know which veggie is their favorite or who likes what toy the most! Any advice on how to connect with my piggies more would be greatly appreciated! And if anyone does have that connection I would love to hear about it!

Do your pigs live indoors with you? :)

I find I notice a lot more as my pigs are in my living room where I spend most my time.

Some of the things I know about my pigs is that Cissy will eat almost anything, isn’t fussed with toys and loves to chirp, Bella’s favourite toys are anything made out of willow and loves zoomies, Drom wants what ever other pigs have but loses interest quickly and adores Cissy, Tonks only really likes one treat which is the Rosewood pansy & apple hearts and she reminds me of Gerald from Finding Dory :)) Iggy just loves being around his wives, sometimes rumbles in his sleep and he likes spinach and tomatoes above all things. And they all love to annoy each other

Yes! They live in my bedroom actually so I see them a lot!

Omg I loved reading about your babies! Cissy sounds a lot like my pumbaa with the eating part . I would love to see Iggy rumbling in his sleep, precious baby! How did you figure out that Iggys fav veg was spinach and tomato!? I would love to know what my guys favs are but they eat everything so it's hard

As I have 5 I scatter feed their veg round the cage and they always pick out their favourites first! I like to watch them pick bits out. It’s a pig eat pig world in there so it’s a rush to get their favourites before it’s all gone :))

Cissy’s favourite would probably be carrot (a rare treat), Bella’s would be parsley, Drom’s is lettuce and Tonks’ is cucumber. They all love herbs though, their favourite green for all of them is grass and the home grown weeds like dandelions and plantain. I plan to grow some more for them too :)

I scatter feed as well! But never actually take the time to watch everyone eat, but I will take that extra step tomorrow at dinner! What! There's seeds for dandelions! I gave to go run and get some for my guys as our new yard doesn't grow any! All my chunks go crazy for herbs And lettuce.

Mine tend to switch up foods sometimes, so it's hard to say if everyone has a favorite. I do feel like I know likes/dislikes fairly well. One of my kids has taken over the morning hay over the past several months, so I feel more out of the loop than I used to!

I can tell what mines favourite food is by the order they eat. E.g if I feed Rosie and Daisy carrot first and then put in some kale or greens they will drop the carrot for them. I also get to know them just by sitting and watching. I found I learnt the dominance structure that way.

I think spending just an extra few minutes a day spying on them might help you feel like you’re more a part of their lives, this is how I bond with new piggies and keep up the relationship with my girls :)

I got to know mine by just sitting watching them. I find their behaviour fascinating, so can watch them for a hour easily. I sometimes sit next to the cage with a book. When they go to sleep I read and when they get up I watch them.

Yep there is no replacement to watching them. Biscuit loves ear rubs, is fearless, would mug you for lettuce. Or critical care or mushed pellets. She is the matriarch will only wheek for food but usually leads the call. She loves Jet more than anything, and prefers head rubs to cuddles. Jet is soft loves spinach likes a chin cuddle, will come over for rubs but rarely wheeks. Binky, hates pigs, hates people loves daddy loves daddy loves daddy loves daddy, likes cucumber peel
, hates strokes unless it’s daddy,. Zigg is athletic, loves sweet orb likes cuddles loves other piggies. Willow is brave but new so I don’t know much about her yet.

I think your Biscuit may need to teach my girls to love mushed pellets! Does she teach classes by any chance :))

I’ve asked her she says she has no time as she is looking after ‘the idiots’. Zigg however has said she gives lessons for payment in critical care.
I suppose that’s a fair deal! I’ll have my girls at your door bright and early tomorrow :tu:

I second (third?) the idea of just sitting with them for a while and having a chat with them to be honest! My boys and I spend all day together because they have a day run in my home office, so it's not unusual for them to be in my company for 8 hours of work day, then move them to their evening run in the living room with us for the rest of the night. Doing that for a couple of years, I think I know them inside out now! My husband still asks me how I can tell their noises apart, but I think it's like anything, familiarity brings knowledge :)

I know what my piggies Favourite veg and houses are because its the one they are always in/eating first. To figure out their favourite veggies just try to see which one they always choose and scoff up first! I know what Hazels favourite house is because she is always sat in that one when she wants to be in a house, and she will boff her sister out if she is in it, even if there is another house! :D

I too love watching my piggies. I love it most when the weather is warm and they can play outside. Watching them nibble the grass and popcorn is always guaranteed to me smile. If my piggies are happy, I'm happy xx
