Adult Guinea Pig
I'm looking to book a self catering holiday at Easter with my parents.
In the past I have booked Leo bunny, and the 3 guineas into pet boarding which has been great as Ive got to know the pet boarders and the gang always seem happy.
Years ago I use to get a friend/neighbour to pop in but dont use that option now as dont consider one visit a day is enough, pet boarding is much better.
However Monty piggy is 5 soon and does get rather impacted - so needs his rear end checking at least twice a day.
I'm considering what is best for him before we book anywhere - either to use pet boarding or to take him with us. Id love to take them all but not got the room in the car.
Does anyone take their piggys with them on their hols?
I cant fit a hutch in the car but would look to buy a smaller nero cage or something as reckon I could pack that with the food/hay and have Monty in his travel box with me in the back of the car.
The cottage we stayed in last year had a great summer house in the garden that could be locked for extra security or he could be inside. I dont know what the owner would think as Its a no pet property but her garage had a rabbit run in so she might be ok. There are plenty of dog friendly cottages I reckon would allow guineas to stay.
On the other hand it might be unfair to make Monty travel that far at 5 he would be away from his neighbours Melvin and Parsnip and Leo so maybe pet boarding is best option. Ive never taken him in the car for more than half hour to pet boarding, might well be too stressful for him.
If any of the gang were ill Id not go away or would take them but like to consider all options before we book a holiday! It might be that with Monty being older and Leo bunny being 13 this year that holidays are not going to be an option as their needs come first over holidays.
Id love to see the option of booking loan hutches/cages for small animals for self catering cottages at a small fee - would take them all then if it was not a long journey.
Id be interested to hear peoples views on taking guineas on holiday with them. Ive taken hamsters with me in the past which was fine but never guineas.
