I did want some sows but I was told it can upset boars. obviously they wouldnt be in the same cage but would be in the same room

Can it cause boars to fight if they smell some totty ;) in the same room?

Just curious really!

Very much depends on the boars in question, some are fine and others turn nasty

All my piggies, male and female, are kept in the same room and I have no problems with fighting or anything. All my males are in pairs and my females are in groups of two or three. I also have two females with a neutered male. They can all see one another, and they stand at the bars obviously communicating with one another, but its all very calm.

hi i have 10 sows who live in 2x groups of 2 and 1 group of 5 and 1 by herself and 2 boars that live together they all live in an outbuilding i have no problems with the boars fighting but if i handle them after i have handled the sows they get a bit excitable as they can smell the sows on me

Awwww stop it I WANT GIRLS! lol Maybe in a couple months I will get my little girls :)
;)

We keep our two boars and five sows in c+c cages next to each other and they love it! Obviously it's horses for courses (or should that be piggies for something?!) and some piggies might not like being in such close proximity to the other sex. I imagine they get frustrated!

Whenever our little ladies are getting excited you can always count on our two big boys climbing up onto their back legs, leaning against the grids and trying to peer in to the girls' cage to get a glimpse of what's going on!:)p

Sharing the same "air space" shouldn't be a problem but I would advise against using the same areas for floor exercise.

I have seperate runs for the boars only when exercising as the smell of a sow having been present on the floor can cause the boys to become aggitated.

It goes without saying that it depends on the pigs but for teenage boars it may be enough to set them off.

Same as Tinso. Mine are in big cages in the same room, they can see each other, but whenever cleaning out or cuddling, its always boys first. The only time a didn't do this the boys got very excitable. Gave them some special veg to take their mind off it and it worked! x

Hmm, I've had it both ways! I've had two boars living happily as a pair until moved into proximity with sows, then they've fallen out badly. Others have lived in proximity to sows no problem. I think it depends on the pigs!
