Now Hendricks has moved into the shed with the girls I've started to pack away his indoor cage.

Browsing through facebook earlier and a Gumtree ad was at the side. Two female guinea pigs in Nottingham. They looked really cute so clicked it. A bonded pair of females 6 months old and living around 5 minutes away from me needing a home. My thoughts turned to the spare 120 cage we now have...

Does the wanting of more guinea pigs ever stop? I'm at 7 now. Obviously theres a moment where you know you can't take any more. But these two will play on my mind for a while.

I know you can't rescue or take them all... But its so difficult!

:D It helps if they are too far away, or if there are too many of them at one time. But only two and just five minutes away? AND you've got the space? Oooh, I'd be soooo tempted!
Actually, I was in the same position last June and came home with Aspen and Cedar! I gave away my big cage that they had been in, so I wouldn't be able to take in any more piggies.

I know! Its far too tempting but I think I'm going to have to be strong on this one... although they're so close! Maybe I should try and forget I have the spare 120 haha.

:DUnless you are going to use the spare cage for your existing piggies, then perhaps you could give it to a rescue or sell it so that you don't have the available space?

I'll keep it in the shed. I'll have it incase any of the piggies become ill and they need to come indoors. I'll just have to be really strong. :mal:

:D Good luck with resisting those two piggies! :tu::tu::tu: You'll just have to keep telling yourself that you need that cage as a hospital cage! :tu::tu::tu:

Cute piggies are hard to resist. Same with my surprise rat babies I ended up with more than I thought I would.
As cute as two more piggies are you have to be boring and remember that its two more piggies to feed and pay vet bills for. A spare cage is always useful to have free for any ill piggies too. As much as we want to we can't rescue them all.

Yeah thats exactly what I'm thinking. I guess you have to go with your head over heart on these things.

I deliberately don't look at the adverts. It's too heartbreaking. But there comes a point when if you take in any more you can overstretch yourself financially and in terms of time so that you aren't able to give them all the best life you intended. Definite head over heart but not easy by any means.

Yeah I don't normally. My search history is pretty much only guinea pigs haha. So thats why the advert was suggested I'm presuming. Wish I hadn't clicked it now. Thats true. I know I could afford to keep them. But I'm not sure if it would be wise decision, like you say.

Twice my family has decided 'after this one/pair we will never get any more'. My mum managed to stick to it after the second time, but I could not. And even though I'm mostly at full capacity (there is enough space in my cage for at least one more, but I actually think it's a really nice size for four), I keep wanting and wanting to rescue poor little oinkers. >_>

I know. It's really hard isn't it!

I don't think it ever stops. I go on gumtree just to look for Guinea pigs that I know I can't have. And then I look on animal shelter websites, beg my boyfriend if I can have one because "he's super cute and needs a loving home" then he says no and then the pattern continues

I wasn't having any more and made the fatal mistake of looking in adoption centre with boyfriend.Said Kyle was cute, he asked the guy to get him out and he ran up my body and snuggled into my neck.Could have resisted if he hadn't been taken out and snuggled but not a chance of him going back in the cage after that. Was meant to be (or that's what I keep telling myself)

You could take this in two ways honestly.

Fate, because they were advertised to you after all that and it wasn't even piggies you searched and they are that close by in need of a home.

or you could think you've just got that cage free for if your piggies become ill. Also if your piggies do get ill and its one that spreads around it could be extremely costly plus twice more with the new piggies.

Often I see new piggies and I really wat a second girl to go with Sakurai but I keep telling myself not to because I don't know if I have the funds if a huge hospital bill did come up and I would rather be able to afford and look after my existing babies. So I try keep it that once one dies I get new ones and thats it. It's hard but in the long run probably better for my piggies.

No, I always wish I could adopt more pigs. I always thought it would be neat to have a herd. I love seeing the social behavior between them and think that more would add to the dynamics. However, for me I'm limited to two because in the summer we are lucky enough to be able to go to my parents' cottage for long periods of time, so I can't have more pigs than I can easily transport in the van (along with my luggage and my three kids and sometimes my spouse.) We also can't have larger animals like dogs or cats because my dad doesn't want them in his cottage. I figure when my kids are a bit older and have summer jobs and I can't just pack up and go to the lake whenever I want, maybe then I will get another couple of piggies in a bigger enclosure. And maybe a dog!

it's easier to ban yourself from clicking on adverts than to try and convince yourself you shouldn't have more piggies :))

Erm... in my case, no.

Some people say I have a problem. I say you might be right, but it's a pretty awesome problem to have. :)
