Please help/advise!

I found a lump yesterday on one of my pigs (Pakka) so took him down to the vets who told me it was tumour developed from his sweat glands and would need to be removed to prevent it returning.

He is booked in for tomorrow morning for this 'operation'. Obviously I am anxious about him going under but also wondering if it is necessary to be removed. Surely I can just treat it with antiobiotics & cleaning it. He doesn't seem bothered by it & in pain.

Please tell me you thoughts on this.

I think it really depends on the type of lump your piggie has.

If your vet is certain that it is a tumour I think that removal is usually recommended (although I'm sure more expereinced members will be able to advise if this is correct)

Have a look at this link It gives some good advice on all kinds of lumps, including tumours and cysts.

Hope your piggie is okay x

Thank you

Link helped.

I'm sure the vet knows best but I am concerned about the anaesthetic & the vet bill. Perhaps I need to have a chat with her in the morning.

i would think if it's a tumour, removal would be best. i would be very worried about the anaesthetic aswell. hugs x

i think aslong as you have a good exotics vet, then to trust them. i am sure they would be happy to have a chat with you to put your mind at ease... you will still worry though i bet.. many a time the vet has had yet another chat with me whilst i've been sat there crying and panicking :red all the best. x

Definitely chat with the vet pre-op if you have questions. Ask what alternatives there are- including just watching and waiting. I always worry when my pigs have anasthesia too. Luckily the pigs of mine who have had general anasthesia both handled the drugs fine. Good luck tomorrow either way!

Spoke to nurse at vets today & explained my concerns. She put me at ease & agreed to allow a few days for the antibiotics to kick in. So, off to vets on Weds to check lump if still the same or worse will need to be removed.
Typically, I told the nurse how well he seems & isn't bothered by it. I tempted fate & he's been very subdued today! Don't think he is very happy with me forcing medication down his throat though!

Well, Pakka had his lump removed yesterday. I decided it was the best course of action. The vet said it will never go away, we could have treated with antibiotics but would mean going back & fourth to the vets for meds & check ups that I thought would upset him too much.

Brought him home yesterday afternoon as he wasn't eating at vets. He seems fine, if not a little sorry for himself. As soon as he saw his brother & some dandelion leaves he was happy. :<>

He enjoyed some carrot this morning after his meds & I just need to keep an eye on him, back to the vets on saturday for check up. I think I did the right thing, thanks to those of you that gave me advise, reassurance. x>>
