my guinea pig marv is 5 years old and has had four bladder stone operations. his recent one was almost two weeks ago, the vet thought he had two bladder stones but once she had opened his bladder there was only one & she said the other was actually a piece of bone and there wasn't anything to worry about because it's likely to have been there most of his life. marv has recovered very well but over the past few days he has made a few noises whilst trying to poop & there was a little bit of red on the towel from where he had peed. just now, when peeing, he was breathing a little bit heavier than usual but there was no red this time. I'm not really sure whether this piece of bone is bothering him, if it's actually a bladder stone or I'm just being paranoid because he could still be recovering? please help

He has a piece of bone in his bladder?

The only way you can completely rule out stones is an x-ray unfortunately. It is possible for a stone to appear quite quickly after surgery.

Is he on a calcium controlled diet?

I agree they can form again quite quickly, it could also be residual inflammation and he may benefit from a product like Cystease or Cystophan which you could ask your vet about. Another stone needs to be ruled out first though.

Agree with the above - unfortunately my piggy managed to make another stone 10 days after an operation to remove one - an X ray is the only way to make sure but it could just be bad timing with a uni or he could be developing adhesions post op like my pig did ( this would also show up on. X-ray and can cause intermittent pain squeaking - not necessarily even every day ) cyst ease / cystophan is used by a few of us on here and my vet has me crushing up and syringe feeding cal corea carbonica by Nelsons (a homeopathic medicine from Holland and Barrett ) to help prevent future stones forming - along with filtered water and other melds ( pm me if you want to know more ) it seemed to work for my vet previously with a baby tortoise who kept making bladder stones really quickly.
