Sven was neutered 5 days ago. I have been looking at the incisions everyday but didn’t really touch anything until tonight. One side is very soft and feels empty, the other side is swollen and hard, almost like there is still a testicle in there! When I was feeling on it he didn’t act like it hurt and the incision looks nice, no discharge or anything weird. There is no redness there, his crotch area is light pink so I think I could see if it was red or inflamed (he’s a hairless pig). He has gained a little weight back since his surgery so he is not losing weight and he is eating, drinking, pooping normal. Do you guys think it is an abcess or infection or something?

Would it be worth a vet check?
@Betsy has had some recent experience of an abscess in that area with her Christian so she may have words of wisdom.
Hope it’s all ok

Sometimes you can have more swelling on one side than the other. As it isn't red or hot then it wouldn't be my first thought. Still, with anything I'm not sure about I will definitely get the vet to have a look to make sure.

I would go for a post op vet check just to be on the safe side. It could just be one side is more inflamed than the other only your vet will be able to say for sure.

Please see a vet promptly! It can be a haematoma (blood ball) or an abscess. Only a consultation will give you the answer. A hernia would feel soft to the touch.

The vet felt around on Sven for quite awhile and he said he didn’t feel anything harmful. He thinks it is just inflammation from the internal sutures. He said if it doesn’t go down in the next few days to bring him back.F1685778-4746-4241-8D85-42360E9E6578.webphaving a little snack while waiting for the vet643F0776-E282-426C-8940-C3C2F0575311.webp4DC35EB0-BCF4-4B9C-BE89-D5703158D2C3.webpa kids for good luck :wub:C95B84E1-DC7A-4312-B9F3-F4674CEEB996.webpSven knew which end the vet needed to see! Dr. Greenfield loves his lightning bolt scar on his bum!

Well Sven’s swelling has not gone down and it seems a little tender so my husband is off to pick up some antibiotics from the vet. Poor little Sven!

He has lost some weight too, he went from 827g to 760g in a few days. He is at 775g now and has stayed at that weight for 3 days, so at least he is not losing any more. I see him eating, but not as much as normal. His poops are normal looking. I really hope the Baytril helps him! Poor guy just looks sad.0920186D-5AE5-423B-BDE9-2B16A2A8FA04.webp

Oh he doesn't look happy does he? I'm sure with your loving care he'll get better. Have a treat ready for immediately after as Baytril tastes foul! Christian was surprised the first time I gave him Baytril as he was used to nice stuff coming out of a syringe. The look he gave me was "what the:cen:was that?!?!?" I swiftly following it up with Metacam (last dose of Metacam tonight). He took his course of Baytril grudgingly for a week cos he knew he'd get something nice afterwards. Good luck!

This is my first time giving baytril, you’re right it must taste awful, he started pawing at his mouth after I squirted it in! I had an apple slice ready for him and he took a few bites of that and felt better.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

My bunny had a hematoma after his castration. It has taken over 3 weeks for the swelling to go down, mainly on his left side. He's been completely normal though for the last 2 weeks and only needed pain relief for the first 2 weeks.

Sven’s is on his left side too

I put a pile of hay right in front of Sven and he is munching away, I haven’t seen him eating much hay lately, maybe it hurts him to reach up to get the hay out of the hay rack.09350786-574D-4129-BB78-1AA03D21151D.webp

Sven has been mostly in his hidey since he’s not been feeling well. I was excited to see his little hairless silhouette looking out the window when I came in the piggy room this morning. Hopefully it’s a good sign, I’m so worried about him!7E16CD84-3154-44B7-9E6A-B03D0A4CC4A4.webp

Sven has lost more weight, he is down to 725g today. Should I start syringe feeding him? I have some critical care. His poops look kinda dry, I don’t think he is drinking enough.
