As outlined in another thread, my piggy Bruce has been prescribed Zantac and Emeprid for suspected bloat. I started both as prescribed but he I am concerned the Emeprid dosage is too large.

It says he needs 1.1ml every 8 hours and came with an extra bit syringe to administer the dose. Compared to other posts on here, that seems a lot. He weighs 1.145kg as per the emergency vets today.

We have done as prescribed, but he seems even more out of sorts now:(

My sow dot is on 0.3 zantac and 0.5 emeprid twice daily and she weighs in at 930g at the moment

Oh god. It says 1.1ml every eight hours. We have given two and he seems so out of sorts, hence my question. Is there anything we can do to speed up it's metabolism? More fluids. I thought I was doing the right thing taking him to the emergency vets.

That seems very high. I cant say what to give because i have no qualifications to, but maybe call the vets when you can or try calling a vet that deals with guinea pigs or rabbits or both more.

Everytime i have had to give it, its been every 12 hours. So i do 7am and 7pm

Yea its there in print. Maybe double check it with the vets
I will do first thing in the morning. I'll skip the 4am dose he is due too, to be on the safe side. I feel so awful for not questioning it before.

Thank you for your help and input. I will give them a call in 10 minutes when they open. Bruce is noticeably less bloated today, but still quite lethargic and out of sorts, so will be taking him back to our usual vets today for a check-up and peace of mind. Will let you know how we get on.

Keep up the syringe feeding 👍
We've been to the vet. They said the emeprid dosage is fine, but he should be on 10 times the amount of Zantac he's been prescribed!
I've been syringe feeding him, little and often, as he's chewing and swallowing quite slowly and trying to go too quickly means he ends up with most of it round his chin. Water he's lapping up with a bit more gusto, so I've been adding probiotic powder to it and also been trying him with Diorylyte, and I've also made him some poo soup out of the poop from one of my other, healthy piggies.
