Can anyone advise if georgies grease gland looks normal? My friend took him up my local vets today for a nail clipping and to have his grease gland cleaned as it’s overactive and I struggle to get it properly clean. When I looked yesterday it looked red and sticking out a bit and comparing it to my other boar Guiseppe it definitely feels kinda swollen but I don’t know if they should be like that or not.Ive took a couple of pictures(ignore the lump near it, he’s had it over a year and the vet is not worried. They also shaved him at the back)628CFE65-D6AE-4572-B2B0-209183A1BE35.webp29A26708-2785-4C9E-B2ED-D8ADCC2696CF.webp

Aww never seen a bald grease gland before, but a couple of my girls have had very greasy, grease glands, one of them I could pick a crust off like a big scab it was that thick :vom: every few months I had to do that, she wasn't bothered as long as she could fill her face with food when I did it!

Some people use Swarfega the hand cleanser (green original version) to soften it & clean it up.
Just check the area isn't infected, if it's red/sore or the skin is broken don't use the swarfega.

Some guineas have very active grease glands, it's not a problem generally... Just looks a bit unsightly sometimes as their hair gets a bit glooped up by their piggy butt
Xx

Hi! Please have it vet checked during regular opening hours after the weekend. Grease glands can occasionally go a bit haywire.

Do you think it looks infected? I’ll book him in at my other local vets. One of the vets there seems good with Guinea pigs. The vets today didn’t seem worried by it but they were also cleaning his grease gland with tissue and they’re not very savvy.

It is very difficult for me to judge from the picture - best have a hands-on examination. But if I had a piggy with a gland that looked like thism I'd have it seen at the vets.

Poor boy he looks like he’s got a shaving rash? Bill and Ted have got really over active grease glands, you can pick it off like shoe polish 🤢 but the worst it mats their fur, I soak it in slightly warmed olive oil, it seems to work quite well. Hope your boys little bum settles down soon x
