Does this seem right? Correx related.

I'm making my own C&C cage, i've got everything arriving hopefully tomorrow and i'm so excited! :D

I came across this site on our forum:

http://www.teacratepackaging.co.uk/correx-board

£3.98? It seems a little cheap, has anyone purchased from here and how big is the sheet. I know it says measurements but I dont see a picture =/

Any help would be appreciated.

The sheets are big, 2m x 1m, 2mm thick correx. I have used this correx without problems but some people prefer thicker stuff, 4mm or more. It is cheap, but when you add on the postage for a small amount it makes a big difference :(

Hmm, I will get some eventually.

I was going to use tarpaulin instead, its a massive plastic sheet :)

yes that is right, the sheets are very big but a quite thin, I still have this correx in use, I need to get a thicker one, as my piggies are chewing it :))

Yep that's what I got.
Mine has been ok for Flinn and Winstone, they've only nibbled a bit on one end. I have split the front edge where i keep leaning on it but it's bouncing back ok, I've had mine since last september.
Fuzzy and Tyler however have DESTROYED theirs, there's barely any edges left so if you have chewers I'd reccomend (if you use it) wrapping your fleece over the edges and tucking it under, I learnt this way too late and will be replacing it shortly, may double it up too.
So in short, it works fine in my opinion. Be warned, it will be delivered fast, next day probs and they wrap it in a massive tube shape lol! I ordered 3 sheets and they came to work as I work full time and I could only just get this massive roll in the back of my poor KA lol mallethead

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Have you all got bottoms on your cages? I haven't actually thought about it and it just occurred to me that my pigs might push the cage off the plastic sheet...

Would you say 2x4 is big enough for 2 pigs?

2x4 is spot on but if you do have more space then go for it.
I have a correx base which sits directly on the kitchen floor and the grids go around it and the top cage's base sits on a sheet of mdf wood which is cable tied to the bottom cage.
Lots of people any additonal layers out of grids but i didnt have enough hence the wood. If its a single story I don't think there's any need for anything undeer the correx personally.
Here's mine to explain what I meant:

4x2 grids, the correx sits directly on the floor.

I would recommend 'Chiltern Timbers'.
They do their correx in 4mm sheets (they are gigantic sheets!) and in various different colours. I was lucky enough to be able to collect, but they do deliver if you need them to.
My pigs have a 2x4 with a 2x1 loft (for the two of them) - as although I would have like to make the cage bigger, I just don't have the space. They do get handled every day and get to go outside though.(depending on the weather!)
Good luck :)

Thanks for the video :)

Do you think one of those sheets from the website you gave me would be enough to fill one 2x4 cage? would I need more than one?

You will need 2 sheets as they are 1.22 x 1.22m if my memory serves me right rolleyes

You will need to join it in places, I used this tape, it's waterproof :
http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/600721

I joined two pieces together first, then popped the cage on top to do the measurements.

Make sure you score the correx to fit inside the cage follow the GPC website
http://www.guineapigcages.com/howto.htm

I cut mine to allow sides of 6 inches/15cm as i wanted fairly high sides to prevent them flinging poops everywhere & I can honestly say I have never found a stray poop lol :)) I then made my cage liners to go over the edges so that they can't chew the correx. If the sides are high they are less likely to do that though.

Hope that helps :)

My two boys are in a 3x3grid cage with just a tarpaulin as a base (and then towels and fleece) and I've never found it to be a problem in terms of moving around. You may get more poop and such coming out the sides though. I did watch the video posted but it seems if you're not going to put you pigs on a table then not having a base wouldn't be a problem. :)
