I am so upset writing this.
A few weeks ago i watched Haven eating dinner and it looked "odd". She wasn't in pain eating ...it just didn't look right.
Now a few weeks on ...and to be honest with my family issues with my grandma and mum being poorly i have not been weighing as i usually do as am so stressed and tired.
When i weighed Haven a few days ago she has lost a good deal of weight. Her eating is also off...
shes not drinking much at all and seems like she can only eat critical care.
she runs about squeaking when i put veg down and she tries to pick good up but drops it and cant chew properly.
Tommorow i will call my vet...but never had a dental animal so no idea what to expect...

@furryfriends Excellent Adventure Sanctuary

It can also be an obstruction in the mouth or a rash/infection in the mouth/throat area. Generally, dental piggies are hungry piggies. Good that you have booked her in.

I am very sorry that it is all happening at once for you! I remember very lively how much I was struggling with Cariad in between rushing up and down to Wales on the train to sit with my dying MIL during nights and looking after the business and my piggies in the Midlands at least once a day (thankfully, my neighbour would feed them when I wasn't around). Cariad needed a bladder stone operation sometime in between my MIL passing away and her funeral; thankfully she has pulled through.

I'm really sorry, do you know how much she has lost in total?

Oral fungal is a possibility too, can you smell her breath? does it smell musty at all like damp dishcloths? Also have a look at my hay warning thread as it has photos of oral fungal.

she has lost nearly 200g again...so down to 650g so lost a lot of weigh....i feel so guilty i have been so wrapped up in my grandma i didn't notice.

I have had a look at the thread and it could be oral thrush...cant smell anything at the moment...and she didn't like her mouth open...but she smells of metacam so its hard to tell.
she is happily eating critical care now and last few days a stable weight.

Jen I'm so sorry. Try not to blame yourself as you had very good reasons for being busy. Hopefully the vet will find out what it is and she will get well again.

Thanks. I just hate knowing Haven is poorly. I seem to have spent the last year at the vets with Haven. She has so many health issues, i feel so overwhelmed. Her hip is still having issues and trying to get the correct meds for her issues... i just feel like i could cry.

Glad that her weight is stable with the critical care. Is it John you are seeing?

Please don't feel bad, you had a lot on your plate.

Just left Haven (and Honor for company) at the vets.
She will be syringe fed critical care all day today and extra pain meds.
tomorrow he will sedate her....check her mouth properly and xray etc and will call me after.

Thanks everyone. Will update again tomorrow once the vet calls to update on Haven x Miss them like crazy already... am so worried about her ..

Does sound like dental and how Pitch used to react to food, show willing but then not able to eat.

At least you are covering all bases with the x-rays as they will show any root issues. Big hugs from the both of us and lots of healing vibes to Haven. x x

Update on Haven:
The xray showed she has a severe infection in the inner ear and jawline and also an absus and a bone infection.
He said its a very painful infection so he has upped up pain meds to tramadol in addition to metacam and flushing her with antibiotics and keep her there for the next few days.
He did warn me she may not respond as she is so far gone...but wants to give her a chance as she is a fighter and been though so many medical issues. I feel so guilty and sad for Haven and feel i failed as a mummy as she must have been in pain and only on metacam twice a day. I hope she respends...but am semi prepared she may not....i just want her pain free.

Oh jenny :( Do not feel you have failed her, please don't put yourself through the ringer on this, you are one of the most dedicated piggy slaves on here. You are having a tough time with everything lately. She was on Metacam twice a day, you couldn't expect to do anymore than that. She is in good hands with your vet and keeping her there to watch over her is the best thing, they sound very on the ball with the Tramadol as an opiate pain relief. Keeping Haven in my thoughts and sending you big hugs.

She is a fighter remember that, if anypig can pull around it is Haven. x x

Don't blame yourself Jenny.

Hope Haven responds to the treatment soon, glad she is on high end pain relief. She is in good hands at the vets.

Jenny please do nof blame yourself. this is not your fault in anyway at all. i really am willing her to get better soon. she is a real fighter.

Oh jenny I'm so sorry it's not great news. But the main thing is that it isn't ALL bad news and she does have a fighters chance. I'm crossing all my fingers for you that she keeps on fighting.

There's no way you could be to blame for this, you are a fab piggy mum and I know you'll do anything for your girls.

Pm if you want a chat, you were so kind and helpful when Cash was suffering - I'd love to be able to repay that.

Update:
The nurse called on behalf of John. Haven is doing well. She has moved from injectable pain meds to oral pain meds and is comfortable.
Appetite on both girls is good and said they are eating like hogs...Haven is still being syringe fed as they cant tell how much is Honor and How much is Haven. But more positives today. I will call again tomorow and see how they are. I am feeling more positive today...thanks so much for all the well wishes. I hope this means Haven is turning the corner.

Thank you. I know its still a case of waiting hopefully for the infection to get under control soon and she will hopefully be home in a few days all being well x

update:
Nurse called and John is happy for haven to be collected. Picking her up Saturday at 9am so john can talk me through everything.
I am so pleased.:-) my babies will be home Saturday! X Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
