Hi, over the past few weeks i had noticed that one of my boars was loosing weight. He has been eating and drinking normaly but the weight loss worried me so i took him to the vets. She agreed that he was under weight (0.83kg) and suggested it could be kidney related. She gave me some anti-parasite spot on just incase and asked for a urine sample (he wouldn't oblige whilst there!). I took the sample in and when the results came back it showed traces of blood:( He is now on Co-trim (i believe this is septrin) and she wants to retest after 10days.
He is on 0.8ml twice daily, does this sound right? I had a rabbit which was on the same dose once daily and he weighes 3kg! I'm sure she is right but just wondered if anyone eles was on the same dose?

Sorry to hear he is unwell, it sounds like a UTI, and septrin is a good AB to treat it, however, that sounds like a very high dose especially for sucha tiny piggy...... hopefully someone else can confirm.

xx

When my Eliza was on Septrin, she was on a high dose although I can't remember the exact amount.

I double checked with my vet before giving it to her and he reassured me it was ok for her weight as Septrin is much milder than Baytril.

I would double check with your vet before giving it to her though.

it is slightly high, unfortunatley Ive packed all my veterinary textbooks up for moving. I normally give around 0.7ml/kg dose of septrin twice a day. Give your vets a call and they will be able to advise you.

x.
