Doesnt know how to wheek?

Dudley is my lil man who i rescued off an ex breeder ( he was on the free ads i didnt know he was a breeder till i got there). As you all know he was in a state and i was worried he wouldnt make it as he refused to eat and drink. Well first of all his doing fantastic. His up to his target weight and is popcorning around nicely. He now comes to the side of the cage to be fed which he would never in a million years do before when i got him.
One thing i dont understand though is that he cant seen to talk. He tries to wheek at me when i come in the room and ask for veg but he opens his mouth as wide as he can and you can see him forcing himself to try and make a sound. All you can hear is a long breath of air with a slight squeek coming out. As he was so badly treated before could he have been hurt and damaged his voice box? or is it possible for a piggy who has had no veg (and by is weight when i got him hardly any food at all) and nothing to look forward to to not know how to wheek as his never wanted to? I dont know what it could be, its very cute and i know its him as its so different but i would love ti know why and if theres anything i can do for him.

He was neutered a couple of weeks ago and has healed lovely. His girlies are above his cage and he tries to talk to them the best he can. His a very special lil man.

Some guinea pigs come without their big wheek - my Dizzy is another one who finally found it just a few weeks ago! I thought that she looked always so endearing - this big, heartfelt heave with just a little sigh coming out! And you can't fault her on loving upbringing or attitude.
 
well my poppy hardly ever makes a sound at all she just smiles at me

poppy's mummy lilly went over18 months with out saying a word at all know she allways talking

my archie dosent talk either
 
lol i give bradders his veg and 5 mins later he expects more so off he goes again lol

thats what I'm dreading:... Bandit is the noise of the house i can't imagine not being woken up at odd hours of the morning for his veg.
he so special he has aquired a new name lol Bandito :p
 
ow bless i have to say to bradders shush little man lol as we are not meant to have pets and all he does is wheek hehe but if anyone says anything i tell them to get a life lol x
 
well the neighbour has a dog so i do a bit of black mail i say if you tell then i tell lol :)

hehe thats the way to work it,I'm about to upgrade to a property with neighbours a little further away lol with 1 small child,4 dogs,6 piggies and 2 rats I'm sure our neighbours would like some peace lol xx
 
I also have a piggie that cant, she does all the other noises but I've never eve heard her wheek, she had major head trama and a broken leg before I got her so I've always blammed that. I see now some just don't... interesting.
 
I don't think guinea pigs can't wheek but moreso that they don't want to. Perhaps wheeking has never been enforced in their environment so they don't.

One of my piggies seems to think that when he wheeks they'll be fed. If he anticipates that it's veggie time he'll start up a solo on his own and excite the other two, if it IS veggie time he'll start up a solo on his own. If I talk to him he'll talk back. My other two are mute during feeding time. If it wasn't for Cashew being a dominant pig, so he's pretty rumbly and wheeky, he'd be permanently mute too.
 
Not quite the same i know, but I used to have a cat who couldn't miaow. She used to just open her mouth at you when she wanted something! I'm not sure, but I don't think she knew anything was wrong!
 
I had a pig who, when he wheeked, always sounded like he had lost his voice.

Lennie couldn't wheek, I never knew why...it would come out hoarse :{
