I recently adopted a piggy named Lucy from a not-so-good home, and for the time being she is alone until I can get a bigger cage to fit two of them. I feel really bad that she is alone in her cage all day, so whenever I'm home I put her in her big play pen so she can run around. But, all she does when I put her in there is eat the veggies I usually give her, and then inspect the perimeter of the pen and try to find a way to get out. Once she decides there isn't an escape route she just lays down. So, shouldn't she be getting exercise? Any reasons as to why she won't run around at all?

Hello! Try putting out a few hideys all around the pen (tubes, cardboard boxes, pigloos etc) to encourage her to explore, as this will make her feel more secure :) scattering the veggies in different places may help too!
Your piggy is lovely by the way :)

My guinea is the same I have an American short haired breed so they are really chilled out and relaxed, so maybe it has something to do with your breed, or they could just be relaxed and contented ? Hope this helped :)

hiding the food so she has to search for it will keep her occupied for a little while longer.
