Oh the horror, came home from school science event with my wife and son. The dog( bluetick) greeted me at the door, wait a minute, he was in kennel when we left. Oh crap, check the piggies! The C&C cage was destroyed. Hay, pellets, lettuce, and blood all over. I threw the dog out. TBH, I wanted to harm him. Wife and son crying, I kick them out to so I can find piggies, for better or worse. Under the loveseat, together are Oreo and Bertha. Both wet with spit. Oreo is not wounded externally. Bertha had puncture wounds on her butt, right rear leg. We immediately called our vet. The call center said the vet was not available Tonite 😠. So much for emergency service. Bleeding is stopped, both piggies are tired and cleaned up. Both had some Romain. We gave Bertha some Pedialyte, Oreo was drinking on her own. I will take both piggies first thing to vet. Pray for my girls?!

Oh no how horrendous! Think I'd try to get them seen by a different veterinary practice if you have another emergency one locally, either that or pester the hell out of the usual vet to get them seen ASAP.

Both will need checking as an emergency for internal injuries & shock.
Bertha will probably need antibiotics for the puncture wounds.
They'll both benefit from painkillers too by the sounds of it.
Lots of healing vibes being sent your way & a big hug for you all, it sounds like you're all in shock too :(
Keep us posted x

Sounds like you're doing the right things as far as you can.
Keep them warm, quiet and hydrated (any cucumber?) until you can get them to the vets.
Love the girls & I. Xx

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this! Can only agree with the above post and try see a vet as soon as possible. In the meantime perhaps just keep checking on them and offering food etc. It's more the shock of what happened which would worry me- however if both are moving around now that sounds great!

As for your dog, try and remember (though it is distressing and I would also feel very upset and angry if I had found that) that he/she was only following their natural instincts and doesn't understand that these are also your pets.

Please keep us updated!

I am so sorry to hear this. I'm praying they pull through. Do we have any updates?

I am so sorry but you really need to find a vet ASAP.
Where are you located because there could be someone to recommend a vet that can help you.
Are there any updates? I am praying they pull through.
In the meantime please read through this thread for any thing else you can do for them...

Both were back the normal this morning. Squeaking and gluttonous. Both were ready to be held and where running around when they knew some ice cold Romain was heading to them. Oreo is spread out relaxing in the open, Bertha chose let her lettuce digest under her blanketKIMG0346.webpKIMG0345.webp

Definitely still try and get them seen. There could be internal issues or shock regardless of how they are appearing. If doggy can escape kennel, you'll probably need to find a better place for him to stay when you're out. Sorry to hear this happened, try not to be mad at him.

Oh no! Hope your piggies are ok. Good luck fixing the cage up. I would reccomend getting a new dog kennel to keep the dog in while you guys are out, a stronger one. Or you could keep your dog in a fenced in backyard while you guys are out. Like stated above, dogs are predators and have instincts that tell them to attack prey animals like guinea pigs. So he doesnt know any better. Sending healing vibes to your pigs.

What a shock for you all... I hope your piggies are ok ..

Even though they seem fine still get them checked at the vet. Piggies hide illness very well as they are prey animals and don't show signs of weakness or pain until it is often too late to do anything about it. Weigh them daily as this is often the only way to tell if they are ill.

Updates on your piggies? Hoping for good ones!
