My poor little Dolly has had one thing after another. I feel so rubbish

She's had a fungal skin infection that I have been dealing with and is peeling away now. But she's given herself some nasty scratches too.

Last 2 days she's been squealing and stamping in pain about 3 times a day. I thought it was the scratches but Cy said he saw her trying to wee when she was doing it. So I took her to the vets to rule out a UTI.

No blood in her urine but her bladder is very inflamed, thickened and sore. So she needs an x-ray. He has warned me they may need to do a little gas as she is very full on. Just enough for her to cooperate apparently. :(

He thinks it sounds like stones BUT he did say sometimes they get bladder inflamation at the same time as skin inflamation. So may be that.

Good news is no sign at all of pregnancy - thank goodness as she's having an x-ray.

So they will phone me at about 1pm to let me know how she's doing.

Worried for her - she's been through so much already I just want her to be peaceful.

Poor girl!

My best wishes to your mite; I sincerely hope that it isn't a stone!

Virtual VIBES (guaranteed free from my own cystitis bug) from the tribe!

Aww poor Dolly! I'm keeping fingers crossed for you that it isnt a stone. I hope she starts to feel better really soon! x

Bless her, I do hope the xray comes back clear and she can just be sent home with ABs and anti-inflammatories. Fingers crossed for her. xx

Do any of you know if inflamed skin and bladders come up at the same time? The vet seemed to think that was sometimes the case. He's so good I am inclined to believe him.

Poor Dolly. Do you think I could have done something to give her an inflamed bladder?

I was going to follow the Peter Gurney pearl barley / honey liquid thing if it's cystitis - has anyone tried it and does it work?

aw poor Dolly :( Hope she feels better soon, hugs and wheeks from my guys

Hugs for both of you. x

Perhaps you could pm one of the other members who has skinnies for advice.

Time is going really slowly!

I am hopeless at times like this and have just sat about not helping myself.

less than an hour till I find out she's okay after the xray and possible gas.

I am speaking to skinny owners too - it's not that different really as they are guineas, just hairless.

Okay back with Dolly. I am seeing the vet at 4.40pm to find out but they did say it's NOT stones. YIPPEEEEEE :)

I am guessing now that her bladder is inflamed with her skin so sort one and the other will get better too.

She's on day 4 of her fungal treatment - last day tomorrow and I can start to apply some soothing stuff like aloe vera and galen garden cream to her sore bits. Maybe her skin will start to soothe and the bladder will follow.

Just so relieved about the stones.

So the barley water - anyone with thoughts?

sorry to hear about dolly! no advice sorry best wishes for a full and swift return to health!

Aww thats great news that its not stones! Sorry I can't help with the Barley water.

Excellent news that it's not stones!

I have not heard of the bladder being inflamed along with the skin, per se. I do know that fungal skin conditions can affect piggies sytemically; I'm mostly aware how it can lead to respiratory inflammation which then predisposes them to bacterial infection. So it's not too far fetched to think that what happens on the outside affects the inside too, but I couldn't say what medical conditions that statement would encompass.

Someone was giving advice on the barley water thing on another thread the other week. If I can remember who I'll let you know!

Oh Dolly the Diva, get better little piggie!

Glad to hear its not stones. Sending my best wishes to Dolly..

Okay been to the vets and there was very little to see on the xray apparently. No problems on there - slightly inflamed bladder, he's given her Emegemycin, metacam and hibiscrub for her skin.

He said the antibiotic would last a while and cover things.

I have a problem in that I gave her a drop of Metacam when I picked her up at 1pm. I wasn't told not to either which I am a bit annoyed about and didn't know he'd given her some until I got home and looked at the receipt. He did say when I collected her not to give it until tomorrow but I had given her one drop on my finger by then.

Could that harm her? She had it 5 hours ago and is running round the cage looking for food at the moment. He injected her at 11am and it says 0.06 - is that mls?

Okay - he wasn't talking from medical books I think more from guineas he'd seen. I like that about him.

So could well be that the two are related.

I am glad there are no stones and hope that your poor girl will recover form her inflamed bladder.

Giving her an extra drop shouldn't do much harm - it's about the smallest dose you can give.

So sorry to hear Dolly has been causing so much stress for you today! Poor little girl wish her a speedy recovery and I'm with wiebke I don't think a drop will do much harm...

Get well soon little one :).

Hugs to you Lisa it can be so stressful, I am very happy to read there were no stones :) xx

Ps, you brilliant piggy mummy stop doubting yourself she couldn't be in better hands :)!

I am pleased to report she seems much better this morning. Her skin seems much better, no new scratches and she was very enthusiastic for her breakfast too. Happy days :D

Long may it continue!

Great news! Make sure that she gets plenty of probiotics to help keeping her appetite up!
