Hello!

You might remember me from a couple of months ago when we rescued three teenager boars. They are now happily separated into a two and a one, sharing a divider.

They seem happy overall, but I was wondering about the dominance behaviour of my pair.

one of them (Prawn) rumblestruts all the time (he’s tiny so it’s adorable), while Edgar squeaks in response. Edgar has never rumblestrutted as far as I can tell.

However, Edgar does all of the humping (albeit not very often). Prawn tolerates it pretty well, but is quick to squeeze out the way and rumble off, he’s never confrontational. Edgar also occasionally sends a mild, controlled nip Prawn’s way if he’s sitting too close (he's directed a couple at me if I get to close to his butt) 😂. Edgar seems to be dominant, but the strutting from Prawn is perplexing.

I’m not worried about fighting, it all seems pretty good spirited. They’re not the most cuddly of pigs, but they enjoy being together. Just curious about which pig is dominant!

I had thought that maybe Prawn struts towards Bao (the separated pig) as those two absolutely do not get along, but it seems to be directed to Edgar most of the time (although sometimes he just seems to enjoy swaggering around to himself).

They’re very cute pigs!

Yes I remember your original posts!
My boys are exactly like this! Popcorn rumblestruts but it’s Dexter who mounts. Between my two, it is definitely Dexter who is the dominant and Popcorn always submits, but does love a good rumble!

I divide my neutered boar into rumble-singers and mountaineers who mount a sow from any which way as their way of saying hello, depending on their approach to life (and in my case, sows).

I have several husboars who rumble away happily all day in their teenage and early marriage; it is just how they express their feelings (generally those of being content with the world at large). The mountaineers are generally a bit more dominant in their attitude than the rumblers.

Yes think my Luigi spends most of his life rumbling around the cage and Jess, then flying around doing popcorns like a loon! He’s the most vocal piggy I’ve ever had, but such a happy boy! And roughly 18months old, think that’s just him!
Jess is the boss so just lets him get on with it and sticks to her grub or carries on with her nap (prob helps she’s deaf so can just ignore him!), but has to give him a little warning every now and again if he’s getting too annoying!
