Hi People!

It's been a while since I've posted here but wondered if anyone could give me some help! Two of my sows, Bumble and Bee, are sisters and have lived together since they were born, they're now 3 years old. Never had a problem with either of them, Bumble has always been the dominant sow but she's a very gentle and laid back pig and you don't hear much from her, Bee has always been a drama queen and never shuts up talking to herself. Anyway, last week I noticed Bumble rumbling and chasing quite a bit which was strange in itself but put it down to her being in season. Since then it's got progressively more frequent and nasty, she's now trying to mount Bee quite a lot and nuzzling into her. I'm just a bit concerned as it's been going on at least a week now and Bee is getting majorly fed up, it's also setting everyone else in the room off with rumbling/worried noises.

I tried bathing them last night to either neutralize the scent or traumatize them into being mates again lol, they were lovely to each other the whole time but just carried on with the rumbling etc after about half an hour. The funny thing is they can be fine, cleaning each other and cuddling one minute and then they start this again.

I really don't know how to help but it can't carry on because it's getting worse and Bee is getting fed up!

Help! Hope you're all well anyways!
Emma x

Tell those little ladies to stop throwing their dam handbags around!
Good luck i'm sure one of our more experienced in girlie 'hormonal' times will be able to help you :)

Hey Glynis! Thank you :) I think I posted this in the wrong section woops! I'm fed up with all the commotion going on from the other room lol! Hope you and your girlies are well x

My only experience of this happening is when one of the sows has been unwell, and just got really stroppy. Turned out she had mites, so wasn't too serious, but until it was sorted they didn't get on at all. Settled down later though. As Weibke says, check out some links and give her a good once over to see if there are any symptomsl. xx

Thanks guys. I did think ovarian cysts too think I was just hoping she'd have stopped by now, will check out the link thanks Wiebke xx

ETA: read through the link and she doesn't show any of the signs apart from the aggressive sexual behaviour. But she has only started doing this recently so maybe other symptoms will follow. Think I'll just keep an eye on her for now and if it's still no better will get her checked out, would hate to have to put her through a spay :( x

Might be an idea to log her weight as well just for reference, that is usually a good indicator of something amiss. xx
