Hi there ., a lot of keepers will already be aware of this , but for those new to pigs , if your pig ever needs
a general anesthetic , tell the vet you do not want DOMITOR used !

It if fine with most other animals, but it can have disastrous consequences to the pig and it's keeper.

Domitor, is a sedative that is used in G A's ,

the problem is that a GP's liver has problems getting rid of the
drug from the system , leading to the pig falling in and out of sleep, not all pigs have the same reaction , but I believe it do's affect all pigs to one degree or another

if this happens whilst it is eating it can
choke to death .

It can take up to 36 hours before the pig is out of danger,
l have lost 1 pig to domitor , and another was falling in and out of sleep , and I ended up having the pig in a cage
at the side of my bed. So that I could syringe feed hydration fluids when he was fully not sleepy .

Another well known keeper lost here pig to domitor , the story is on guinea linx .
A lot of vets are already aware of this , but tell your vet you do not want it using ,
and also get the vet nurse to write it on the addmis ion form . That way the vet would not dare
cut corner and use the drug
