hello i have 2 guinea pigs. I resently bought a new one in July. I have got a cage with stairs for them to climb up. Both of the guinea pigs are males the older one is called cookie and the younger is called cherry. I have separated them because they were teeth clattering at each other and their hairs were raising. They have been separated for 2 months because I am scared that they will fight. They both teeth clatter at each other very loudly and I want to get them to be together but I don't know what to do ? Do I just leave the stairs and leave them too it or what ?

:wel:to the forum.

I will tag @Wiebke as she is one of our experts in guinea pig behaviour.

Do you live in the UK? We have members all over the world and useful to know what country you live in as this can tailor our advice - and county if you live in the UK.

From what you have said, I think you have done the right thing by separating them .

Hi!

You will find this guide with further links helpful: Boars: Bullying, Fighting, Fall-outs And What Next?

If your boys are still quite hostile just on sight, I would not hold my breath - sadly there is no way you can merge two boys whose personalities don't mesh, especially not during the hormonal teenage months. But the guide will tell you what you can do to find out whether this is really the end of the line; it also helps you with finding a long term solution that suits your possibilities if they do not gel.

Make sure they have a house each preferably with 2 entrances so they can't get cornered by each other. Fiddlesticks are great for this.

How big is their cage? When you say stairs do you mean a ramp?

Could you add your location to your profile as it helps us tailor any advice to your geographical location

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Do they act the same when you place them in a neutral area? Like a pen in the kitchen or somewhere new to them? If so. looks like they are going to clash , probably both dominant males. If not, you can try to re-introduce them there, for short times and carefully watch them. Unfortunately, some just don't get along.

I thought you had introduced them and they had gone back together peacefully? Please either let them get on together or do not bother, but please do not mess them around, or they will get fed up!

And please read the guides I have given you.
