hi i have a fluffy long haired guinea pig and when i was giving them hay today i noticed he has lost some weight and his hair dosent look to have grown. ive given them a large bowl of food today and lots of hay he is eating and drinking. i also noticed that their house smell strongly of poo and the pelletts are quite soft, his house buddy monkey is fine and still has a nice like guinea pig plumpness. but I'm concerned about doogle anyone know what it could be? he is eating and drinking but is having soft strong smelling poos and is getting skinny. i took him on from someone else so I'm unsure of his age. any advice would be great.

also I'm gonna contact our vet in the morning for further advice and to book appointment just wanted advice from other owners.

Maybe he's got some sort of digestive issue. My Willow had something similar, she had lost a little weight, but was still eating and drinking. I tried a pro biotic. It worked!

I would most certainly talk to your vet though, it may be something different than what I just mentioned. Good luck with your piggy, I hope he gets better :)

sounds like a gut issue to me. Definitely ask your vet for probiotics. Also cut out Veg and make sure he's eating plenty of hay and food. Please weigh your pigs every week too and you can tell if they're still ok or losing weight. Hope the vets goes well x

hi all i went to the vet and she said she couldnt see what was causing his weight lose and gave me a list such as kidneys liver gastro intestional etc. ive been given a weeks worth of antibiotics some extra vitamin drops and more hay. basically ive been told to stop feeding him hard food and only feed him hay and veg, where i was feeding them 60% hay 20% veg 20% hard feed roughly basically the vet said in the wild they dont eat food like it so i dont need to feed it to him. so I'm off to pets at home tonight to return the large bag of food that would have lasted a long while to go get different hay and grass mixes for him and his pal monkey. ive got to return him to the vets on saturday the 19th for another weigh in and to see how the antibiotics are working. my vet isnt very nice to human but she is a love to the animals and its was resonable £28.00 included all the meds and vitamins and check up plus a large bag of hay with flowers in. tip top. :-)
